Module Three: Developing a Mathematics Learning Environment

This module combines all the Units together: Unit One,Two and Three - Understanding the Role of Community in the Math Classroom, Math Talk, Establishing a Safe Community for All Learners.

This module will allow participants to consider the role the learning environment plays in engaging every learner. Both the physical and social environment will be considered. Participants will reflect upon the impact of decisions regarding the environment and the intentional development of a community of learners, in supporting student learning.

The following are resources for developing an understanding of the importance of representations in math:


Mathematical Representations 20%

This assignment will support participants in developing a deeper understanding of the role of incorporating and connecting a range of representations (e.g. concrete, symbolic, visualization), to support student understanding. Participants will engage in professional reading to understand representations; implement a set of lessons intentionally incorporating and connecting representations; and monitor and reflect upon the impact on student understanding.
