In the end of year 2014, Legislative Yuan in Taiwan passed three Acts for Experimental Education, turning over a new leaf in the history of Taiwan's compulsory education. Experimental Education in Taiwan is a rich, complex concept which refers to non-traditional education or non-mainstream education, also absorbing the philosophy of alternative education, innovative education and homeschooling. Its original purpose is to encourage educational innovation, secure children's right to learn and receive education services, provide parents with multiple educational choices, and enhance the diverse development in education.
Entering the twenty-first century, humanity faces profound transformations and challenges across social, economic, and environmental domains. Rapid technological advancement—particularly the rise of artificial intelligence—has increasingly blurred the boundaries between the reality and virtual worlds, while fundamentally reshaping how people live, learn, and interact with society.
In the context of the VUCA era—characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity—this year’s conference focuses on how education today can reimagine and scaffold the “future world.” Scholars, graduate students, and education practitioners in Taiwan are invited to conduct empirical research on senior secondary education in Taiwan and to share their findings in dialogue with international perspectives.
Through exploring both academic research and practical experiences in alternative and experimental education from around the world, the conference aims to examine how high school students can be better prepared for the transition to adulthood and for participation in an AI-driven society. By bringing together diverse perspectives from research and practice, the conference seeks to foster thoughtful and inspiring dialogue that may contribute to the future development of experimental education.
Now, we want to invite interested scholars and researchers to gather and share about “Pathways to Adulthood: Supporting Youth Toward Confident Adults”.
