Dr. Flavio F. Contreras-Torres is a core researcher of the Unit of Experimental Medicine at the Institute for Obesity Research, Tecnológico de Monterrey (2022–present), and Research Professor at the School of Engineering and Science (2015-present), where he leads the Nano and Biostructures Research Group (2019–present).
From 2012 to 2014, he served as a Research Associate in the University of Arizona (USA). He was awarded other postdoctoral fellowships, including those from CONACyT (2011-2012), ICYTDF (Mexico City, 2010-2011), and DGAPA (UNAM, 2008-2010). He completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences (UNAM, 2004-2007), focusing on the formation of cyclic amino acids derivatives onto nanosurfaces.
He is a member of the National System of Researchers of SECIHTI (SNII-2), the American Chemical Society (USA), the International Union of Crystallography (UK), the Sociedad Química de México (SQM), and the Sociedad Bioquímica Mexicana (SBM). Additionally, he has served as a Guest Editor for Materials Today Proceedings (Elsevier) and as a reviewer for multiple scientific journals.
He has authored 69 publications (Scopus h-index 17 with 959 citations), contributed to one patent, supervised two PhD thesis, five MSc theses, and mentored two postdoctoral fellows.
