The Nano]°[Biostructures RG participates in the Unit of Experimental Medicine (UEM) for The Institute for Obesity Research (IOR) at Tecnologico de Monterrey. For the next years, we aim to be an interdisciplinary research group participating and directing our efforts to develop, establish and sustain long-term collaborative projects in translational research. A particular goal of the UEM is to identify opportunities for therapeutic targeting, which will be tested using in silico, in vitro, and in vivo models. Hence, our group requires hiring postdoctoral researchers to collaborate in projects within a full science research ecosystem. We welcome applicants with a keen interest in the interface between fundamental research and the clinic, as well as the ability to define a health need with the same precision as a basic science hypothesis.

Added Value of This Postdoctoral Position

The added value of this postdoctoral position lies in its contribution to advancing knowledge in Computational Biophysics, consolidating an innovative approach to drug discovery and repurposing through cutting-edge theoretical-computational tools. This position offers the opportunity to integrate and apply techniques in artificial intelligence, cheminformatics, and multiscale modeling to analyze protein-ligand interactions and biophysical processes in biological systems, delivering solutions with a direct impact on translational research in obesity and other health issues.

Additionally, the postdoctoral researcher will add value by strengthening the synergy between theoretical and experimental research, collaborating closely with clinical groups to accelerate the generation of applicable knowledge. Their participation will be essential in boosting scientific productivity through the publication of articles in high-impact journals and securing external funding via strategic proposals.

The full-time position is for a fixed term initially of 12 months and supported by a grant from the IOR. The job position will be based at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Monterrey, MX.

If You Have:

A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Computational Chemistry, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Sciences, or related areas.
Membership in the National System of Researchers (SNI) and at least six scientific articles published in Scopus-indexed journals (Q1/Q2) within the last two years.
Experience in developing and applying machine learning models for computational biology and drug discovery.
Proficiency in cheminformatics tools and techniques, including chemical database analysis, virtual screening, and molecular descriptor calculations.
Programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or similar, with experience in machine learning libraries.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Desirable Requirements:

At least two years of prior postdoctoral experience at a national or international research center.
Experience in building collaborations for research projects with other universities and national or international research centers.
Proven experience in developing research proposals to secure funding.
Familiarity with molecular dynamics simulations and virtual screening.

Expected Outcomes:

Develop and implement machine learning models for the identification and characterization of ligands targeting proteins of interest.
Apply cheminformatics techniques to analyze and predict molecular and pharmacological properties.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and contribute to drafting high-quality scientific publications (Q1/Q2). Publish at least two scientific articles per year.
Write research proposals to secure project funding.
Others such as: Assist with training junior lab members including graduate and undergraduate students. Present results in lab meeting, seminars, and conferences.

Job summary

She/He will be responsible in programming codes for develop databases based on interaction fingerprints at the biomolecular level. The Research Technician will collaborate with other team members of the NBRG, including UEM staff, IOR staff, faculty, and students. This is a grant-funded one-year term position with the possibility of extension based on funding and performance. Funding for this position is administered by the Institute for Obesity Research.

Basic Qualifications

MSc degree.
Two years' experience with machine learning applied in biomedical research.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Experience in programming computer languages (Python, STATA, R or MATLAB).
Evidence of outstanding academic achievement.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, research, analytical, writing, and editing skills are required.
Proven ability to handle multiple projects and demands, and to adapt to changes in priorities required.

Postdoctoral fellow in biophysics for in-silico identification of allosteric sites on protein-coupled receptors

Implement in-silico studies from molecular dynamics computational simulations and machine learning predictive scenarios to lead a research project focused on the recognition of proteins and small molecules by protein receptors. Contribute to analysis for the identification of drug-protein interactions with a specific focus on the prediction of allosteric sites on G Protein Coupled Receptors. Generate fundamental knowledge about biomolecular interactions at the membrane and receptor levels. Provide approaches for molecular design using key interaction residues. Special emphasis on multiscale modeling of biological systems, modeling of lipid membranes, proteins and receptors, weak interactions, and development of new computational methods.

The full-time position is for a fixed term initially of 12 months and supported by a grant from the IOR. The job position will be based at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Monterrey, MX.

Responsibilities: Independently design and execute experiments. Assist with training junior lab members including graduate and undergraduate students. Present results in lab meeting, seminars, and conferences. Assist with manuscript, proposal, and grant writing. Publish in journals Q1. Implement strategies for linking with other research centers of Top 100 Universities.

Postdoctoral fellow in physicochemical evaluations for low-glycemic foods

(Finished, Dec 2023)

Support the physicochemical characterization of the changes derived from the interaction of starch with small molecules, lipids, and proteins to assist in designing of healthy foods. Contribute to the generation of mathematical models to measure the impact of ingredient processing in food formulation and the changes that occur during the digestion of foods with low glycemic index and high protein content. Validate the functionality of active ingredients in drugs, supplements, and foods in collaboration with researchers and students from Campus Puebla, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. Support the development and management of basic science research projects with different industrial sectors in food and health.
