As part of the Teach for America community, you'll notice that we take great care in communicating with transparency and inclusivity in mind. To ensure that the usage of technical jargon or organizational shorthand don't limit your ability to jump into learning, we're breaking down some of our most common phrases and acronyms below.

ACP- Alternative Certification Program, alternative teaching certification programs offer a nontraditional route to certification that allow participants to enter the classroom with a probationary certificate while completing program requirements. Following completion of the ACP, participants will gain their standard Texas certification. Learn more here.
BOYC- Beginning of Year Conversation, as you begin teaching in the fall you'll meet with your DSI (Director of School Impact) to discuss your coaching and support for the year.
CFU- Refers to "Check for Understanding," part of the classroom culture cycle you'll internalize during summer training that allows you to gauge students' understanding of instructions.
CMs- Corps Members, we'll also often refer to 1CMs (1st year Corps Members) and 2CMs (2nd year Corps Members)
D,SI- Director of School Impact, your teaching coach for the school year
LDC- Leadership Development Coach, your coach for summer training
LP- Lesson plan
Pre-Corps- refers to the phase of onboarding from the time you commit to Teach for America through the beginning of your summer training. This includes all certification, testing, and interview-prep action items you complete to make sure you are prepared to be placed at a partner campus.
Pre-Service- refers to the phase of training following Pre-Corps onboarding. This begins May 25, 2023 with Launch Live and includes both virtual preparation and in-person teaching practicum on partner school sites.
