THE ORCH BOARD

In our orchestra classroom, Leader in Me principles are woven into the fabric of our daily rehearsals and interactions. We recognize that every student has the potential to lead, and we celebrate the diverse roles that contribute to the success of our ensemble. From section leaders and tuning assistants to rehearsal managers and peer mentors, students take ownership of their learning and their contributions to the group.

Leadership roles rotate each semester, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to develop new skills, offer fresh perspectives, and grow both musically and personally. This intentional structure nurtures a strong sense of community, accountability, and mutual respect. Through reflection, collaboration, and goal-setting, students learn to lead themselves and others—on and off the stage—preparing them for success far beyond the orchestra room.

CONCERT MASTER

Helps with the overall coordination of the string section and are responsible for tuning the orchestra.

SECTION LEADERS

Responsible for guiding and helping their section (e.g., violins, cellos) with technical and musical issues. They often help with tuning, rehearsing difficult passages, and setting an example for practice and performance standards.

SCORE KEEPER (LIBRARIAN)

Manages the distribution and collection of music scores and parts, ensuring that all members have the correct materials and that they are returned after use.

ATTENDANCE TAKER

In charge of taking attendance and providing the teacher with accurate absences or tardies

DOOR MONITOR

Responsible for managing the entrance to the orchestra classroom during rehearsals and safety procedures.

TIME KEEPER

Keeps track of time/sets timers during rehearsals, sectionals, or performances.

COMMUNICATION CREW

Handles incoming phone calls during rehearsal or class time.

Helps to manage the orchestra's image via social media, newsletters, and publicity for upcoming performances, events and fundraisers.

SAFETY CREW

Assisting with emergency procedures (e.g., fire drills, lockdowns) under teacher direction

STAGE CREW

Works closely with the conductor to organize chairs, stands, and inventory within the classroom.

Helps to set up/tear down during performances, events and fundraisers.
