Meet Our Guest Musicians

Kristen Hoffman, Choir Director, Applied Learning Academy

Kristen Hoffman is the Choir Director at Applied Learning Academy and a FWISD alumna. She has taught secondary choir for six years. Under her direction, the ALA Choirs have received sweepstakes and superior ratings in competitions. Ms. Hoffman holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Texas Christian University and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of North Texas. She performs regularly with Voices of Fort Worth and enjoys spending any free time with her dog and her fiance, Brad.

Ayden Crum, String Bass

Ayden Crum is a member of the first graduating class from I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA. While a student, he earned a spot in the District Orchestra all four years and was selected for the Region Orchestra twice. Ayden made his solo debut senior year performing Vanhal's Double Bass Concerto in D-Major. He also sang tenor in the A Cappella Choir. Ayden currently studies lutherie (the art of making and repairing string instruments) with David Graham. In the future he plans to pursue a degree in Music Education.

Danny Prado, Drums

Mr. Prado, retired, has been a band director for 33 years and has taught in Jacksonville, Texas; Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD; and Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. He was inducted into the Texas Bandmasters Hall of Fame in 2017. He is an active UIL judge, clinician, and mentor, and regularly performs in the DFW area with different musicians and genres.

Meet the IMTA Vocal Music Staff

Mary-Margaret Soknich, Director of Vocal Music

Mary-Margaret Soknich is the Director of Vocal Music at Fort Worth ISD’s I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA. This is her twelfth year of teaching and her third year at I.M. Terrell Academy.

Mrs. Soknich holds a B.M. in Music Education from Texas Wesleyan University and a M.M. in Music Education from the University of North Texas. She studied piano with Dr. Jessica Koebbe and choral conducting with Dr. Jerome Bierschenk, Dr. Jerry McCoy, and Dr. Allen Hightower. Mrs. Soknich has directed and accompanied church choirs across the metroplex for fifteen years. She performs regularly with the local a cappella ensemble Voices of Fort Worth and serves as their Associate Conductor.

Jennifer Carr, Accompanist

Jennifer Carr received her Masters degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and holds both Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Education degrees from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas.

As a fellowship recipient to the Aspen Music Festival, she performed with the Aspen Opera Theater Center and Aspen Choral Institute, also serving as Opera Administrator for the Aspen Music School.

Jennifer made her Lincoln Center debut with the NY Philharmonic and the Steve Reich Contemporary Ensemble in Reich’s Tehillim. She has sung with the Opera Orchestra of New York in Carnegie Hall, New York Choral Artists, Regina Opera Theater, NY Gilbert & Sullivan Players, and the 92nd Street Y Concert Series.

Ms. Carr has appeared in recitals throughout Western Colorado for the Colorado Council on Arts & Humanities, as well as with the Durango Bach Festival and the Durango Arts Council.

Since 2009, Jennifer has served as accompanist and vocal coach for the Maryland Summer Arts Institute at Salisbury University. She recently retired as Vocal Instructor at Texas Christian University and Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas. She and her husband spend May thru October in Cuchara, Colorado.

Janell Stallard, Private Voice Instructor

Janell Cherie Stallard is a current Artist Diploma candidate at Texas Christian University where she also received her Master of Music performance in Voice. Prior to this, Janell earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree at Texas A&M University of Corpus Christi and taught public school choir for two years. Janell has been teaching private voice lessons for eight years along with her endeavors in professional auditions and performances. The accomplishments of her students include multiple Texas All-State Choir members, first and second place winners in the National Association of Teachers of Singing regional competitions, first place in the Schmidt Vocal competition, multiple Outstanding Soloist awards at Texas State Solo & Ensemble and full ride scholarships to undergraduate institutions. She values her students' happiness and success as they pursue their own journey as young artists and future educators!

Andy Stellar, Private Voice Instructor

Andy Stellar is a recent graduate of Texas Christian University where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree. He has been singing in choirs for the past fifteen years and found his passion for music education during his first year at TCU. During his student teaching, Mr. Stellar discovered that he am skilled at building relationships with students and colleagues and found success in creating effective and efficient lesson plans. His teaching assignments were with both high school and middle school students, which created a more diverse understanding of how to teach students at different levels of experience. Through this, Mr. Stellar found a strong level of interest within himself toward developing individual students’ vocal abilities in a private voice studio setting. He personally believes that by improving on and honing one’s musical skills, a person may also learn how to improve their personal life. As a voice teacher, Mr. Stellar hopes to not only inspire students musically but also get to know them and mentor them throughout their musical journey. In the future, Mr. Stellar plans to pursue a graduate degree in Vocal Pedagogy.

Corrie Donovan, Private Voice Instructor

Soprano Corrie Donovan has been praised for her “soul stripping, lyrical” interpretations and her “polished and distinctively powerful” performances. An adventurous, genre-busting performer and arranger, Corrie engages audiences by exploring a wide range of styles and languages. From premiers with Fort Worth Opera’s Modern Opera Showcases, to participating in Cirque Du Soleil’s vocal workshops in Mexico, to her arrangements of reimagined classical works, Corrie is committed to the full range of vocal expression. Recently she won the Quarterfinalist’s Audience Choice Award with the national American Traditions Competition in Savannah, GA. Other credits include the New York Baroque Festival, and singing with the Fort Worth Opera Young Artist Studio for five seasons as principal and guest artist. With the contemporary group Ensemble 75, Corrie recorded the album Harmonic Allusions, named one of the Top 5 of the year by DFW. Ms. Donovan’s captivating recitals often serve as repertoire mash-ups, offering audiences arias along with musical theater, jazz, traditional Celtic, and art song.
