Meet Our Vocal Music Staff

Mary-Margaret Soknich, Director of Vocal Music

Mary-Margaret Soknich is the Director of Vocal Music at Fort Worth ISD’s I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA. This is her eleventh year of teaching and her second year at I.M. Terrell Academy. She previously served as the Choir Director at Nolan Catholic High School.

Mrs. Soknich holds a B.M. in Music Education from Texas Wesleyan University and a M.M. in Music Education from the University of North Texas. She studied piano with Dr. Jessica Koebbe and choral conducting with Dr. Jerome Bierschenk, Dr. Jerry McCoy, and Dr. Allen Hightower. Mrs. Soknich has directed and accompanied church choirs across the metroplex for fifteen years. She performs regularly with the local a cappella ensemble Voices of Fort Worth and serves as their Associate Conductor.

Emily Davis, Accompanist

Emily Davis is excited to be collaborating with Mary-Margaret Soknich and the I.M. Terrell Academy Choirs as choral accompanist. Davis was the Middle and Upper School Choral Director at All Saints’ Episcopal School from 2015-2020. Through her ability to connect with youth and her vision, she was able to grow the choral department from 25 to 200 in her five years of employment.

Since 2018 she has been in ministry at Broadway Baptist Church as the Coordinator of Youth and Children’s Music and Youth Ministry Coordinator. Emily has experience working in private, public, and university settings as choral accompanist, choreographer, voice teacher, and choral director. She is a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University with a bachelor degree in Music Education with a double concentration in voice and piano.

Emily is in her fourth semester at Brite Divinity School pursuing her Master of Divinity degree.

Jesus De Hoyos Jr., Private Voice Instructor

Jesus De Hoys Jr. is a 3rd year DMA student pursing a degree in Vocal Performance with a cognate in Vocal Pedagogy. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Miami and Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He has performed leading roles such Bastien (Bastien und Bastienne), Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas), and Sam Kaplan (Street Scene). Before enrolling at Texas Christian University, he served as the Director of Music at The Atonement Academy in San Antonio, TX where his choirs won numerous awards and were invited to perform at Carnegie Hall.

Jesus co-authored a paper that was published by the Journal of Voice during the Fall of his second year as a DMA student. He is a graduate student senator and appointed to serve as the graduate student representative for the College of Fine Arts Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. He was recently awarded the TCU Office of Graduate Studies and College of Fine Arts Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award. He currently serves as the professor of record for Voice Pedagogy and Applied Voice at TCU.

Janell Stallard, Private Voice Instructor

Janell Cherie Stallard is a current Artist Diploma candidate at Texas Christian University where she also received her Master of Music performance in Voice. Prior to this, Janell earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree at Texas A&M University of Corpus Christi and taught public school choir for two years. Janell has been teaching private voice lessons for eight years along with her endeavors in professional auditions and performances. The accomplishments of her students include multiple Texas All-State Choir members, first and second place winners in the National Association of Teachers of Singing regional competitions, first place in the Schmidt Vocal competition, multiple Outstanding Soloist awards at Texas State Solo & Ensemble and full ride scholarships to undergraduate institutions. She values her students' happiness and success as they pursue their own journey as young artists and future educators!

Ndumiso Nyoka, Private Voice Instructor

Mr. Nyoka was born in South Africa and graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. During that time, he performed in several operas, as well as The Proms and the Muziqanto National Classic Vocal Competition. Mr. Nyoka also participated in the 2013 Nelson Mandela Day celebration in Paris, France.

Mr. Nyoka holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from SMU and is currently pursuing an Artist's Diploma at TCU while performing with the Fort Worth Opera. He has previously performed with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, The Dallas Opera, operas in Amalfi, Italy, and operas of OU, SMU, and TCU.
