Diamond Hill Pyramid Reading Project
Leaders Are Readers!
This spring, the Diamond Hill-Jarvis JROTC participated in the Diamond Hill Pyramid Reading Project. For this project, Cadets volunteered to read various books for elementary age students. Cadets recorded and uploaded videos of themselves reading books donated from the Cesar Chavez Elementary School library, courtesy of Principal Monica Ordaz. QR codes were then created for each video that could be placed in each library book.
When any elementary student within the Diamond Hill Pyramid got one of these special books, they could scan the QR code and enjoy the special video of one of our Cadets reading the book to them as they followed along.
Because we had more Cadets volunteer than we had physical books, some of the Cadets read digital books from the Sora application available to FWISD students through their Classlink login.
We also opened this opportunity up to the Junior Cadet Corps (JCC) Cadets at Meacham Middle School and had one volunteer join the project.
Whether the elementary student uses the physical book reading video or watches a digital book reading, they get a great story read to them by a Cadet who displays their passion for both reading and community service. We are very proud of our Cadets and their commitment to our community!
