Kirkpatrick Athletics Syllabus Coach Ybarra
Course Description: KMS Athletics is designed to introduce the student athlete to additional fitness gains and sports skills. Student Athletes will expand their knowledge about strength, endurance, flexibility, and body composition. The emphasis of athletics is placed on providing an opportunity for individual growth and success, as well as an opportunity to represent Kirkpatrick Athletic Teams.
Requirements:
● Physical & UIL Paperwork completed and on file.
○ Students can not participate in class until they have all paperwork turned in.
○ Physicals will be due once we go back to in school learning. If a student can not get a physical by then, they will be removed from Athletics.
● 2 Sport Minimum.
○ Students are required to participate in at least 2 sports for Kirkpatrick.
○ One sport must be in the fall semester and at least one in the spring semester.
● Athletic Uniform Shirt.
○ A Kirkpatrick athletic shirt will be needed.
○ Shirts will be on sale for $10.
● Lock
○ A combination lock is required for a locker in the locker room.
Dress Code/ Lockers:
● Students will be required to purchase and wear a Kirkpatrick athletic shirt.
● Students can wear any shorts, sweatpants, or leggings.
● Tennis/ Athletic shoes must be worn in the gym or fitness room.
● Lockers are first come first serve. Students must bring their own combination lock.
Not Allowed:
● No Boots, Dress Shoes, Open Toe Shoes, Slippers, or any shoes that will be a safety issue in the gym are prohibited.
● No Jeans, Cut off Shirts, or Tank Tops.
● Backpacks and purses are to be locked in locker.
● Cell phones, Chromebook, Tablets and other Electronic Devices, shall be locked in locker unless told otherwise.
● Coaches are not responsible for lost or stolen items. It is the students responsibility to secure all personal items.
Students Not Dressing Out:
● Continue to participate in athletic activities but in Kirkpatrick dress code.
● Will earn no higher than a 70% for the day.
● Not dressing out will result in: 1st Offense: Warning. 2nd Offense: Coaches will be notified & parent phone call. 3rd Offense: Affect game eligibility & detention.
Injuries/Unable to Participate:
● Students who are unable to participate in class must have a note to be excused.
○ A parent/ guardian note will only excuse a student up to 3 days. After the third day, if a student still can not participate, they must provide a doctors note or their grade will be affected.
○ A doctors note will excuse a student up to the amount of days/ weeks that is stated on the note.
○ All notes will be kept on file with school nurse and athletic trainer will be notified.
Athletic Expectations at School:
● Students must be in locker room before tardy bell or will be counted late.
● Students will have 5 minutes to get ready for class.
● We expect that you respect yourself, others and equipment.
● Come to class with a positive attitude and participate.
● Behavior and participation in class will affect game eligibility for athletes who are in season.
Virtual Learning Expectations:
● Students will join their class period on Google Classroom.
● Assignments & activities will be assigned throughout the year.
● When students are virtual learning from home, all assignments and activities will be located and turned in on Google classroom.
Athletic Workouts/Routines/Goals: Different conditioning activities and goal setting will take place over the semester including:
● 5 Components of Fitness
● Setting Fitness Goals
● Timed mile
● Weight lifting
● Multi-Sport Skills
● Creating workouts
Parents, we are asking for your help and cooperation. Please make sure your son/daughter comes to class prepared and understands the expectations.
Grading Scale:
● 60% Conditioning/ Skills
● 20% Dressing Out
● 20% Journal/Quizzes

● Parents who are interested in their child’s progress can log in to Parent Portal to check grades and conduct. https://www.fwisd.org/parentportal
● Further questions, concerns, or to schedule a parent teacher conference can be made through email or phone.
