Program At‑a‑Glance
Target group: Grade 11 and 12 students who are unsure which trade they want to explore, but know they’d like to work in the transportation/vehicle‑maintenance industry.
Timeframe:
A full semester on a job‑site placement (co‑op).
Purpose:
Sample several skilled trades instead of committing to just one.
Trades offered (examples):
Truck and coach technician; Auto body collision repair; Electronics; Millwright; Metal fabrication; Welding…and more.
Dual credit component:
Students attend George Brown College (one day/week) for a college credit + high school credit.
Outcome:
On completion, students earn multiple high school credits (co‑op credits) plus a college credit.

Grade 11 and 12 students who are unsure which trade they want to explore, but know they’d like to work in construction.
Timeframe:
A full semester on a job site (4 credit COOP)
Purpose:
Sample several skilled trades instead of committing to just one.
Trades offered:
Electrical; Carpentry; Drywall; Sheet‑metal work; Plumbing; Tile‑setting; Bricklaying; Cement‑finishing; General labour & construction craft work.
Bonus:
Students go once a week to George Brown College for a dual‑credit course ("Construction Health & Safety") (both college & high‑school credit) + a bundle of safety certificates (free).
Outcome:
Upon completion, students earn 5 high school credits and 1 college credit.

New Construction Placements rotated at the TTC - Toronto Transit Commission
Students will rotate through 3 different trades at the TTC such as HVAC, Plumbing, Overhead (Electrical), Track (repair & replace track), Repair Shop (repair overhead doors and small engine tools), Fire Protection, Streetcar (building tracks)
OYAP stands for the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program.
Accelerated OYAP is a specialized opportunity for students to begin their apprenticeship training in a skilled trade during their final semester of high school. The program combines a full-time work placement with an 8-week Level 1 Training session at a college or union training centre.
Grade 12 students in their graduating year who are interested in pursuing a career in one of the skilled trades listed on the program website.
Accelerated OYAP is a one-semester intensive program that takes place during your final semester of high school.
Applications must be submitted by November 7, 2025.
Application Deadline: Tuesday, October 14
Successful students will begin their journey toward becoming professional Drywall and Interior Finishers.
Last year, two Westview Centennial students completed the program and are now earning $29.05/hour as members of Local Union 675.
