EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

All students are required to review and comply with the following emergency procedures:

Fire Alarm Procedures

In the event of a fire alarm, all students are required to:

1. Stay calm and leave quickly and in an orderly fashion through the designated exit route (posted in the classroom).

1. If the normal route is blocked, head for the closest alternate exit.

2. Do not pick up your possessions or go to lockers, etc.

3. Once outside, move to the sidewalk to keep at least 30 meters away from the building. 

4. Stay with your class while your teacher takes attendance.

5. Re-enter the building only after the “All Clear” signal has been given.

Shelter in Place/Hold & Secure/Lockdown Procedures

Shelter in Place: Danger is a hazardous environmental situation where it is safer to remain inside.

Lockdown: Danger is inside or immediately outside of the school.

Hold and Secure:  Danger that is in the general vicinity of the school but not on or near school property.

In the event of a lockdown/hold and secure, all students are required to:

1. Remain calm and follow the instructions of the staff member in your class or area.

2. If you are out of your classroom, go quickly to the nearest classroom.

3. Listen attentively to the teacher, or to announcements from the office, for any further instructions.

4. Be extremely quiet – the classroom must look and sound like it is empty (lockdown only).

5. No one may use the washrooms, lockers, or leave the classroom for any reason except by direction of the Principal or the police.

6. Do not use any electronic devices unless providing vital information to police (lockdown only).

7. Keep away from windows, doors, or exposed areas (lockdown only).

8. Everyone should lie on the floor if gunshots are heard (lockdown only)

9. Disregard the fire alarm unless you see flames or smell smoke.

10. Be prepared to stay in the classroom for an extensive length of time and wait patiently until the office or administration gives the “All Clear” signal.
