Suggestions and contributions welcome!
I've made a preliminary attempt at setting up the MFM2P1 course as a spiral. Feel free to use if it's useful.
I used this schedule to teach a student and he responded very well to this strategy.
I staggered the Retention Checks to several days or weeks after the concept was learned in order to leverage assessment as learning - timing the retention check to bring the concepts back into the students memory to consolidate there.
My student did well on this. I felt more confident that the student had learned rather than simply quickly repeating what he had just done, and then forgetting.
I think it helped tremendously that I was able to work one-to-one with him to keep him on track and point out connections between the mathematics in the different strands.
I found I noticed more connections myself between the different strand concepts.
My Spiralling Process:
Write out expectations on post-its by Strand/Focus
Reorganize by what is easier or harder to learn first
Put in an order for each spiral, from left to right
