I'm sure you've heard of Peter Liljedahl's Building Thinking Classrooms for some time now. What he writes really rings true - that "studenting" and the institutional 19th century teaching method of "I do, we do, you do" can result in students spending very little time thinking. Instead we see a few who think for a few minutes each class, but mostly students are mimicking (which doesn't work well after Grade 10-11), or avoiding, faking, and slacking, while waiting for the teacher to give the answer.
How can we get our students thinking more most effectively? Research has shown that changes can really help.
