Bertrand Tavernier’s César-nominated three-and-a-half-hour tour through French film history, was too short to introduce audiences to all that he wanted to share. In this new eight-part series, the acclaimed director guides us through a roster of filmmakers both influential and forgotten.
The project brings together 14 French-speaking filmmakers from all over the world, from Ouagadougou to French Polynesia, Quebec, Belgium, Louisiana, and points between. Each was assigned the task of creating a short style exercise capturing French as spoken in everyday situations, through the prism of emotions. Users can compare and contrast how love is expressed in Quebec, Switzerland and Morocco, for example, or realize that anger is articulated in very different ways depending on whether one is in Burkina Faso, France or Lebanon.
