Our class will be discovering some of the latest research on how our brains work when it comes to learning. The new scientific findings (from Stanford University's Carol Dweck) show that everyone is capable of learning what they wish to learn, and that our attitudes towards learning make a large difference. We will be discussing the concept of having a growth mindset, as opposed to a fixed mindset.
When someone has a fixed mindset, they believe that everyone is born with limitations as to what they will be able to learn. They think that a person is either a smart person, or not; a math person, or not; a musical person, or not; a sporty person, or not. The latest brain research shows that this is actually not the case. Everyone has the potential to learn. In order to make the most of our potential, we need to change our preconceived notions about intelligence.
