Sunday, Sept. 13th UPDATE:

Good Sunday everyone.  Pardon the long postings.  There is a lot of information I want to get out to you, especially if you are a parent who is signing up for the first time.  PLEASE read everything! :).  Thank you! 

*Signing up on EMA.  Please follow the instructions posted.  They should work.  I don't see it from the parents side when signing up but I'm positive that when your in EMA you'll have to choose the ATHLETICS tab and choose the sport in which your signing up your sons and daughters.*

**PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOU'VE SIGNED ALL DOCUMENTS.  LOOKING AT MY LISTS, SOME PARENTS HAVEN'T FILLED OUT A MEDICAL FORM!! PLEASE ALSO COMPLETE THIS. THIS IS IMPORTANT INFORMATON FOR ME AND THE SCHOOL TO ACCESS AND STUDENTS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IF THIS ISN'T FILLED OUT**.  THANK YOU!

If you're still having trouble, please follow the troubleshooting tips I left in the instructions.

ALL TEAMS ARE GRADE 6 TEAMS.  Grade 4 and 5's are eligible to tryout for these teams.  There are not separate grade 4 and 5 teams.  So please sign up for the Grade 6 team posted on EMA if your sons or daughters are in grades 4 & 5.  

The only team available for Grades 1-3 this year is Cross Country.  If one becomes available during school time (lunch time) I will post it here.  


PRACTICE TIMES/INFORMATION

CROSS COUNTRY - MONDAY-FRIDAY (8:00-9:05 am) at 9:05, teacher supervisors are on duty until 9:15 am in the playard. 

If it rains, we'll be in the gym.  (Door closest to the parking lot/across from the basketball court will be open).

City Finals Championships @ Centennial Park  (4-6 only) Thursday, Oct. 29th

FLAG FOOTBALL -  Tuesday-Thursday mornings 8:00 am-9:05 am.  If it rains, practices will be cancelled.  If you are trying out for Cross Country as well, please go to the Flag Football practices and on Monday's and Friday's please come to the Cross Country practices if you wish to compete in the Sunnybrook Qualifying meet on Wednesday, Oct. 7th.

If you have soccer cleats and shin guards please bring them.  I do have extra shin guards and used cleats (limited sizes) that students can borrow.

CRICKET - Will start up soon.  Mr. Depasqua is the coach and will be making an announcement as to when Cricket will start.  Mr. Depasqua usually holds practices at Monday during lunch.

TERRY FOX RUN Thursday, October 8th.  The whole school will head outside after the assembly in the morning (approx. 10:15) to run around the track for Terry Fox and our donors.  

The donation page is active.  Our donation goal this year is $3,500.00.  Thanks in advance for your kind donation.

COMMUNICATION:


WILKINSON LIONS SPORTS TEAMS (google site):  This site is strictly for information pertaining to Wilkinson sports teams.  The same information will be available on my website.  To join, you'll need to activate your student email account you.  Once you do, you must send me your student email so I can send you an invite. Once accepted, parents can add their email address or I can input it manually.  This google site gives you real time updates as opposed to my website which does not.  You will need to bookmark my website and check it daily!


WEBSITE (link below):  Type this into your browser.  MrKasavalsHPEProgram (sports info tab for sports teams updates).  There is other important information on this site i.e., Terry Fox, H.E.A.L.T.H.Y. Eating Program, HPE Curriculum info.


MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Be sure your class is quiet in the morning as meetings are often called and occasional cancellations of practices.  I will do my best to let parents and students well ahead of time on both my website and google site.


WILKINSON WEEKLY: Newsletter of weekly events happening at Wilkinson sent from our Admin. team. 


NOTES HOME:  Occasionally I will have notes to go home.  These notes will be the same information posted on the website and google classroom.  We are an ECO school so I try to limit the amount of paper used.


TRYOUTS/TEAM MAKE UP:  All sports teams are for grades 4-6 only with the exception of the Cross Country team which includes grades 1-3. These are competitive teams.  Cross country is slightly different.  Just be sure you are coming to enough practices so that your body is conditioned to do the races if you are interested in competing!  If you just want to come out for fun, that is fine too!  I will post more information about the upcoming teams by the end of the week. 


In many cases due to the number of students, cuts are made. Format of play is a tournament between other schools or an area meet (cross country and track and field) where teams or individuals can advance.  Some coaches may have longer or shorter tryout sessions than others.  Please email the coach or ask during sign up or team meetings.  


CODE OF CONDUCT:  Students are to adhere to TDSB'S/WILKINSON JUNIOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS CODE OF CONDUCT when participating in extracurricular teams.  The code of conduct will be shared during team meetings.  This is strictly enforced by using the WILKY WAY!!!!  :)


VOLUNTEERING:  For big events, coaches may ask for parent volunteers due to the number of students on a team and transportation purposes.  We thank you in advance!  


COMMUNITY COACHES:  Coaches will reach out to parents if they are in need of a community coach.  Paperwork must be handed in prior to this.  Coaches will assist with this process. 


ABSENT/OTHER ENGAGEMENTS:  If you know you're going away or have other engagements during practices/tryouts please let the coaches know ahead of time.  


INCLEMENT WEATHER:  PLEASE CHECK WITH THE COACHES AS TO WHETHER OUTDOOR PRACTICES WILL BE HELD IN THE GYM AS A RESULT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER.  THE DOOR CLOSEST TO THE PARKING LOT AND ACROSS FROM THE BASKETBALL COURT WILL BE OPEN.

***Wilkinson Lions Sports Teams google classroom info for those interested in joining***

If you want to join, you will need to log in and activate your student email.  Once this is done I will need your student email so I can send an invite via the student email account first, then parents can be added.  Students are the only ones that can read documents that are attached.  These documents will also be available on my website.   

Joining the google classroom will give you real time updates.  Unfortunately my website does not do that.  You will find the same updated information on both sites.  Also in order to upload anything, only student accounts will be able to do so.  You can upload the same information here.

This is a site for ALL SPORTS TEAMS throughout the year.  This is benefical if you have sons and/or daughters that you know will participate in multiple teams.  If you accept the invite you will be receiving updates throughout the year on all the sports teams Wilkinson participates in.

However, I can remove you from the google classroom once the sport is over that you or your sons or daughters were trying out or playing for.  Just email me to be removed.
