THURSDAY, OCT. 15TH UPDATE:
Sports update and upcoming sports teams for grades 4-6.
What a couple of weeks it was for sports at Wilkinson!
Our boys soccer team played some inspired soccer in their tournament winning 1 game.
Our girls soccer team advanced to the playoffs but lost by only one goal but had a lot of chances, controlling much of the game.
The flag football team were able to score some points in their games but ran into some very tough teams.
Wilkinson has 15 students, including 8 in the top ten and a team of 5 grade 3 girls moving on to the South Conference Finals at Sunnybrook for cross country next Tuesday. This is excellent! Well done LIONS! Good luck next round.
The grade 1 & 2’s ran at the Riverdale Classic at Withrow today. All students ran with a lot of effort and finished the race. Many with smiles! A special shout out to Logan Kong who won his grade 1 boys race. Congratulations to all participants!
To all the students who tried out for teams and were on teams, we are proud of you! The effort you showed at practices and games and the sportsmanship you displayed was done the WILKY WAY!
Also a special shout out to all the parents who came out to support us or volunteered their time, it's always appreciated.
CROSS COUNTRY:
**LAST CROSS COUNTRY PRACTICE WILL BE MONDAY, OCT. 19TH FOR ALL GRADES**
TUESDAY, OCT. 20TH - SUNNYBROOK PARK SOUTH CONFERENCE FINALS for those that advanced. We will be taking the TTC and will leave at 8:00 am. Please meet in the gym. Note the earlier start time as there are no grade 1 and 2's running. PLEASE get there a minimum of a half hour early if you're planning to drive over.

Grade 3 Girls 10:30 a.m.
Grade 3 Boys 10:40 a.m.
Grade 4 Girls 10:50 a.m.
Grade 4 Boys 11:05 a.m.
Grade 5 Girls 11:20 a.m.
Grade 5 Boys 11:35 p.m. (if we are running behind, this will happen after the Barrier Free Meet)

Grade 3's, this is your FINALS. Only grades 4-6's that place in the top 20 will advance to the City Finals on Monday, Oct. 26th.
***Students who move on to the City Finals will have to practice on their own time as I will be starting tryouts for the next sports teams.***

GRADE 4-6 BOYS VOLLEYBALL AND GIRLS BASKETBALL SIGN UP OUTSIDE OF THE GYM ALL DAY TOMORROW - FRIDAY, OCT. 16TH. You may sign up on EMA. PLEASE BE SURE TO FILL OUT THE MEDICAL PART OF THE PERMISSION FORMS ON EMA.
All forms need to be filled in properly before the first tryout. Thank you!

Transportation to and from events: TTC or walking are always the preferred methods to go to meets and tournaments. Wilkinson/TDSB transportation policy: If you are driving you must ONLY take your own children and not drive any other students. You must ALSO call the school before you leave to the meet or tournament and when you are leaving the meet or tournament. Walking or taking the TTC with the team, eliminates both.
**THERE ARE STILL SEVERAL STUDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE MEDICAL FORMS FILLED OUT ON EMA. YOU MAY HAVE COMPLETED MEDICAL FORMS ON POWERSCHOOL BUT EMA REQUIRES YOU TO ALSO FILL ONE OUT. SOME SIBLINGS HAVE THEM, OTHERS DON'T. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK THAT YOU HAVE FILLED OUT A MEDICAL FORM ON EMA. PARTICIPATION ON SPORTS TEAMS REQUIRES THIS. THANK YOU!

COMMUNICATION:
WILKINSON LIONS SPORTS TEAMS (google site): This site is strictly for information pertaining to Wilkinson sports teams. The same information will be available on my website. To join, you'll need to activate your student email account you. Once you do, you must send me your student email so I can send you an invite. Once accepted, parents can add their email address or I can input it manually. This google site gives you real time updates as opposed to my website which does not. You will need to bookmark my website and check it daily!
WEBSITE (link below): Type this into your browser. MrKasavalsHPEProgram (sports info tab for sports teams updates). There is other important information on this site i.e., Terry Fox, H.E.A.L.T.H.Y. Eating Program, HPE Curriculum info.
MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS: Be sure your class is quiet in the morning as meetings are often called and occasional cancellations of practices. I will do my best to let parents and students well ahead of time on both my website and google site.
WILKINSON WEEKLY: Newsletter of weekly events happening at Wilkinson sent from our Admin. team.
NOTES HOME: Occasionally I will have notes to go home. These notes will be the same information posted on the website and google classroom. We are an ECO school so I try to limit the amount of paper used.
TRYOUTS/TEAM MAKE UP: All sports teams are for grades 4-6 only with the exception of the Cross Country team which includes grades 1-3. These are competitive teams. Cross country is slightly different. Just be sure you are coming to enough practices so that your body is conditioned to do the races if you are interested in competing! If you just want to come out for fun, that is fine too! I will post more information about the upcoming teams by the end of the week.
In many cases due to the number of students, cuts are made. Format of play is a tournament between other schools or an area meet (cross country and track and field) where teams or individuals can advance. Some coaches may have longer or shorter tryout sessions than others. Please email the coach or ask during sign up or team meetings.
CODE OF CONDUCT: Students are to adhere to TDSB'S/WILKINSON JUNIOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS CODE OF CONDUCT when participating in extracurricular teams. The code of conduct will be shared during team meetings. This is strictly enforced by using the WILKY WAY!!!! :)
VOLUNTEERING: For big events, coaches may ask for parent volunteers due to the number of students on a team and transportation purposes. We thank you in advance!
COMMUNITY COACHES: Coaches will reach out to parents if they are in need of a community coach. Paperwork must be handed in prior to this. Coaches will assist with this process.
ABSENT/OTHER ENGAGEMENTS: If you know you're going away or have other engagements during practices/tryouts please let the coaches know ahead of time.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: PLEASE CHECK WITH THE COACHES AS TO WHETHER OUTDOOR PRACTICES WILL BE HELD IN THE GYM AS A RESULT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER. THE DOOR CLOSEST TO THE PARKING LOT AND ACROSS FROM THE BASKETBALL COURT WILL BE OPEN.

***Wilkinson Lions Sports Teams google classroom info for those interested in joining***
If you want to join, you will need to log in and activate your student email. Once this is done I will need your student email so I can send an invite via the student email account first, then parents can be added. Students are the only ones that can read documents that are attached. These documents will also be available on my website.
Joining the google classroom will give you real time updates. Unfortunately my website does not do that. You will find the same updated information on both sites. Also in order to upload anything, only student accounts will be able to do so. You can upload the same information here.
This is a site for ALL SPORTS TEAMS throughout the year. This is benefical if you have sons and/or daughters that you know will participate in multiple teams. If you accept the invite you will be receiving updates throughout the year on all the sports teams Wilkinson participates in.
However, I can remove you from the google classroom once the sport is over that you or your sons or daughters were trying out or playing for. Just email me to be removed.
