Cooperative Education provides secondary school students with a wide range of rigorous learning opportunities connected to communities outside the school. It immerses students in a learning experience where they are active participants, where they reflect on the experience in order to derive meaning from it, and where they apply their learning to influence their decisions and actions in various aspects of their lives. Participation in Cooperative Education can lead to transformational change, engaging students in unique experiences that they will remember throughout their lives.
Art Programs
Stratagem – TDSB Creative Industries Virtual Co-op Program
The Stratagem – TDSB Creative Industries Co-op Program is an online co-op experience for high school students that enables participants to explore aspects related to the creative industries. This program features guest talks from a variety of high-profile figures in the business to introduce a topic for investigation each week for students to research, collaborate, and reflect. Students work in teams under the guidance of their teacher(s) to present their findings back to the guest speaker at the end of the week. Students who complete the program are better prepared for pathways into careers in the industry, and are more aware of their options for further education to enable them to get there.
The program supports the following learning outcomes:
Describe the current state of the creative industries in Ontario;
Describe certain facets of the industry in terms of the techniques, the tools, or the issues that drive it;
Produce a creative presentation that responds to a topic;
Work in teams to organize work and determine roles for presentation;
Demonstrate professional approaches to presentation skills;
Explain different options in their ongoing education as a contributor to their career path;
Apply secondary research methods to the gathering of information on the creative industries.
The program will only be running in the summers moving forward. Students who apply for summer co-op who have an interest in the arts will have an opportunity to participate.
The program is appropriate for Arts and Culture SHSM students and all students who are interested in exploring careers in the Arts and Culture sector. Students must be willing to present to peers and industry leaders as well as work in groups with other TDSB students, virtually. Students will need access to a computer with a video camera and microphone along with reliable internet access.

TDSB Banking on Business Program is partnered with BMO and National Bank to provide a group of motivated students with opportunities to gain real-life work experiences in the financial and business field. Students can participate in cooperative education opportunities in one of four dynamic downtown placements:

Placements are available for Hybrid, In-person and Virtual Co-op students. However, 4 Credit students are preferred. There are limited two credit co-op positions.

Students must be 15 years of age or older at the start of their co-op placement.

Students will be working in a clinical area (Diagnostic Imaging, Labour & Delivery, Post Partum, Paediatrics, Acute Care for Elderly, Outpatient Physiotherapy, Inpatient Rehab, Cardiology, Fracture Clinic, Orthopaedic Surgery, General Surgery, Oncology Clinic, Oncology/Palliative and Medicine) as well as Hospital Support Services (Volunteer Services, Gift Shop, and Information Desk).

Army Reserve Cooperative Education Program
The Army Reserve Cooperative Education Program is a joint undertaking between the Toronto District School Board and 32 Canadian Brigade Group. This is a full day 4-credit program that is offered semester 2 Monday to Friday at Moss Park Armoury. Students receive military pay during training and are accredited with all three levels of Basic Military Qualification and will be fully qualified soldiers at the end of the program. Students will also be offered summer employment upon successful completion.
The Army Reserve Co-op Program introduces students to career opportunities in the Canadian Armed Forces. The program includes leadership training, fitness, and the building of self-confidence, respect, discipline, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Semester 2 only - Full Day, In-person placement

Minimum Grade 10 with 15 credits
Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
16-17 years and in school full-time with parental consent
18 years without parental consent

ARMY RESERVE COOPERATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAM
2024-2025 Semester 2
Deadline: November 15, 2024
The 32 Canadian Brigade Group will be offering the Army Reserve Co-op Program for Semester 2, 2025 at Fort York Armoury. The program is a full day 4-credit program beginning February to June, 4 to 5 days a week from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Students will receive military pay of $124.40 per day which equates to approximately $9,000 for the duration of Co-op and will have earned all 3 levels of Basic Military Qualifications. Upon completion of the program students will be offered summer full-time jobs for July and August.
Note: The Army is currently in the planning stage of broadening the occupations for the Coop Program that would include cook, vehicle technician etc. Once confirmed I will forward that information to the schools and update the Army Informed Consent Form.
Eligibility Requirements for Students:

Be Our Guest
The Be Our Guest program is a cooperative education program for students interested in hospitality & tourism including the business/management side of the industry. All placements are in person.

Placements may include (varies by semester):
Human Resources/Front Desk Rotation - half day afternoons
Students will learn hiring practices, onboarding and staff training for half of the placement. The other half will be Front of House learning about reservations, reservation management software, check-in, check-out procedures, hotel occupancy rates and hotel management.
Rooms Division - half day afternoons
Students will learn what is required to get a room ready for a hotel guest including what amenities are common and which are for VIPs. They will also learn about housekeeping management, room turnover, room checks and more.
Sales and Revenue/Reservations - half day afternoons
Position will appeal to a student interested in business studies specifically in sales. Student will learn about what brings revenue into a hotel including guest stays, events, food and beverage sales. Student will learn about the reservation software and customer service related to reservations.
Housekeeping and Laundry Rotation - half day or full day
This position will appeal to students hoping to work in housekeeping at a hotel and ideal for a student looking for part-time work or in grade 12 planning to go into the workforce upon graduation.
The students will work half time in housekeeping learning how to set up a room for guests including how to properly make a bed. A previous student stated: “There is nothing more satisfying than a perfectly made bed!” She was hired as a part-time staff while in grade 11. The other half of the placement will be in laundry. Many hotels no longer have on site laundry facilities so this is a rare opportunity to experience large scale laundry services in a hotel setting.
Concierge and Front Office Rotation - Half day or full day
This position will appeal to students interested in event planning and customer service.
The students will work half the placement with the Club InterContinental Concierge team (this area is dedicated specifically to business people and VIPs staying on the Club floors). The other half of the placement will be with Front Office which includes: reservations, amenities, front desk and more.
Business Rotation
On-site or blended model (minimum 3 days per week on site) positions available. Students will learn about the business of running a large event centre. The position will appeal to students interested in business management, HR, and/or event planning.
Successful candidate will provide support in multiple departments
This will be a rotational opportunity whereby student will be exposed to different job functions within the Centre such as in Operations, HR, Events & Catering
Basic computer experience required, good organizational and team work skills
At least 3 full days availability is ideal (9-4pm working hours), blended model possible
Kitchen:
Full-day co-op position which could lead to a full apprenticeship and/or job. MTCC has their own 3 year apprenticeship program. They are also a great company to work for with good pay, benefits, and advancement opportunities.Interested students need to be in 4 credit co-op in semester 2 and ideally in grade 12 to take advantage of further opportunities.

STEP to Transportation - Specialized Trades Exploration Program to Transportation
This full-day 4-credit Coop program provides a great opportunity for students to experience the Transportation/transit industry through participation in a variety of skilled trades at TTC Garages. Students remain on the home school's roll while participating in work placements at one of twelve TTC Repair and Maintenance Garages. All students become OYAP Participants and will receive documentation confirming the completion of their hours, should they wish to pursue the trade as a career.
As part of this program, students will also participate in a dual credit program, earning one college credit in addition to their cooperative education courses!
