The Stratagem – TDSB Creative Industries Co-op Program is an online co-op experience for high school students that enables participants to explore aspects related to the creative industries. This program features guest talks from a variety of high-profile figures in the business to introduce a topic for investigation each week for students to research, collaborate, and reflect. Students work in teams under the guidance of their teacher(s) to present their findings back to the guest speaker at the end of the week. Students who complete the program are better prepared for pathways into careers in the industry, and are more aware of their options for further education to enable them to get there.
The program supports the following learning outcomes:
Describe the current state of the creative industries in Ontario;
Describe certain facets of the industry in terms of the techniques, the tools, or the issues that drive it;
Produce a creative presentation that responds to a topic;
Work in teams to organize work and determine roles for presentation;
Demonstrate professional approaches to presentation skills;
Explain different options in their ongoing education as a contributor to their career path;
Apply secondary research methods to the gathering of information on the creative industries.
The program will only be running in the summers moving forward. Students who apply for summer co-op who have an interest in the arts will have an opportunity to participate.
The program is appropriate for Arts and Culture SHSM students and all students who are interested in exploring careers in the Arts and Culture sector. Students must be willing to present to peers and industry leaders as well as work in groups with other TDSB students, virtually.
