On October 22nd we will be participating in the Walk for Wenjack. Chanie Wenjack, a 12-year-old Anishinaabe boy, died in 1966 after escaping Cecilia Jeffrey Residential School in Kenora, ON. He was attempting to reach his family 600km away. Unfortunately, he did not make it home.
Walk for Wenjack is a way for our school to learn, reflect and meaningfully engage with an act of reconciliation. We are walking to honour Chanie’s memory, to raise awareness of the history and lasting impact of residential schools and to take action through fundraising for Downie Wenjack Foundation’s educational programs that support our goal of furthering reconciliation.
If you are able, we encourage you to make a donation to move reconciliation forward. Our goal is to raise $1000 as a school community.
