Take a look at Co-Op experiences from Harbord students! We have a wall in school with success stories (accross Studio 217)
Co-op can be done almost anywhere so that you can explore a field you are interested in. This is a great way to decide if a career is right for you before you embark on it.
There are different types of placements:
Regular Employer Placements - This could be literally any employer or association that a student wants to work with. Students choose and contact employers to ask if they will accept high school co-op students. This is part of the skills you develop in co-op. Students are supported and given training and access to past co-op placements.
Non-Profit Placements - Because we have a SHSM Non Profit program at Harbord, we have developed a list of partners and you will get extra support if your are looking to be in the SHSM program and graduate with a Red Seal, as one of the SHSM components in a co-op placement in a non-profit organisation.
OYAP and Trade Placements - There are many ways to have a placement in the trades, and there are many trades. See the trades page for more details. Some are central programs and some are regular employer ones.
Central Program Placements - There are many central programs in the field of Arts, Business, Health (Hospitals), trades, Army, Police. They require an application in May or November prior to the semester start. they are competitive in nature and not guaranteed. A solid resume, cover letter and application package will need to be worked on prior to the start of the semester. they are not accessible once the semester starts.
We have placement ideas for students from a variety of backgrounds, with culturally relevant connections and welcoming environments.
