Thank you for considering having one of our students be placed in your business.
Here is some of the information you might want to have when you consider a student:
Co-op is a great way for students to explore a career path and see if this is a good fit for them before they choose their post-secondary destination.
It needs to be a win-win relationship between the business and the student, and it is important to meet the student before the placement starts to ensure there is a good fit, usually, this is done through an interview (preferably in person, but can be an online one too).
It seems like there are a lot of rules, but the main points are:
The co-op placement will be daily Semester 1 from mid-September till mid-January or Semester 2 from mid-February till mid-June (with Winter/March break and some integration days)
The time the student is at the placement depends on when they are scheduled in class, it is either morning 9-11:30 or afternoon 12:30-3/1-3:30. This can be increased or moved as needed and agreed within reason (no evening or weekends)
There are no weekends or evenings
WHMIS (insurance) is covered by TDSB for the hours outlined in the WEA (Work Education Agreement, the contract that outlines times and location)
Employers can contact Ms Montarras at ingrid.montarras@tdsb.on.ca or Ms Heleno at angela.heleno@tdsb.on.ca with any questions
The Co-Op teacher will work with you to do a placement assessment in person
The main duties of the supervisors are:
signing time sheets at the end of the week (given and filled out by the students, see below for a sample)
connecting with the students to give them work
completing 2 performance assessments (1 at the midpoint and 1 at the end) to give them feedback on their performance, similar to a performance appraisal, on the TDSB form we have
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about the program.
Thank you again for your consideration.
