Main contact: Ms Montarras for all OYAP questions
Skilled trades and OYAP placements give students an opportunity to start an apprenticeship or explore trades to make sure they are on the right path.
Harbord offers a wide range of OYAP programs, even though we do not have trades-related courses.
Construction-related co-op placements will be the ENTIRE DAY. Please make sure that you'll have all your compulsory credits covered. Grade 12 students should be aware of graduation requirements and be clear on their pathway. For example, they will not be able to apply to Universities with 4 credits of co-op in grade 12. They will need to plan ahead and complete U and M level courses in the summer and in night school.
Students need to be ready to take 4 credit courses (no 2 credit construction possible) in Gr 11 and then again in Grade 12 if they want to have a chance to get into the ACCELERATED program.
It is also recommended that students do summer jobs related to their area of interest.
New: OYAP FAST Program: Students who want to complete the maximum apprenticeship training before they graduate high school can complete 8 credits of co-op in the skilled trades and get a seal on their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) that shows their enhanced skilled trades learning when they graduate. They also need to sign an RTA (Registered Training Agreement) with their last placement.
