Music

Courses

The Greenwood Music department allows students to explore the language, conventions, and elements of music through playing, listening, and composing.  Music courses enhance creativity and critical analysis and build important motor and cognitive skills such as focus. Students are encouraged to bring in music from their home countries giving the students an access point for exploring other cultures. Greenwood offers courses in Vocal music (Singing/Choir), Guitar, and Keyboard (Piano):

Vocal Music (AMV)

This class is great for students who are brand new to English. We practice vowel and consonant sounds and train vocal production as we learn to sing together in English as a group. Students will learn the basics of music literacy and gain experience with music recording software.

Guitar (AMG)

Students will learn how to play the guitar and read western notation as well as tablature. We play songs as an ensemble with different groups playing different parts according to ability to challenge all students. Students in this class will be given a school guitar that they can take home for the semester so they can practice and improve their playing skills.

General Music (AMU)

In this class students will learn music literacy, appreciation, analysis as well as practical music making skills. They will play a variety of instruments and engage with music from around the world as students are invited in share the music of their home country. They will also learn to use online tools in musical notation as well as digital media creation so they can learn to create electronic music and record their work.

In a typical semester students will apply their skills in 1-2 group performances at school events.
