The Kindergarten program is a child-centred, developmentally appropriate, integrated program of learning for three- and six-year-old children. The program is delivered through an anti-bias approach. This includes honouring the various personal and social identities of children as well as addressing the barriers faced based on these identities, the social-emotional relationships with individuals different from oneself, discrimination, critical thinking, and taking action towards fairness.
The program also establishes a strong foundation for learning in a brave, caring, play-based environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of all children. The program provides your child with many opportunities to learn, build skills, develop social relationships and become familiar with the routines of school.
Learning and development happen within the context of relationships among children, families, educators, and their environments.
With classes of 16 and more students, students will have two educators in the room: an OCT and a DECE.
The Kindergarten program has 4 frames, or areas of learning: Belonging and Contributing, Self-Regulation and Well-Being, Demonstrating Literacy and Mathematics Behaviours, and Problem Solving and Innovating.

The four frames are used to structure thinking about learning and assessment. They align with the way children’s learning naturally occurs and that focuses on aspects of learning that are critical to young children’s development. Click each frame to learn more.
