The TDSB emphasizes the importance of homework as an engaging and relevant learning activity. The Homework Policy balances time required to complete homework with extra-curricular activities scheduled outside of the school day and activities that support personal and family wellness.
Responsibilities of Students
· Take home required materials for assignments and return them to school.
· Use remedial time at school.
· Complete tasks as scheduled.
Parents/Guardians/Caregivers are encouraged to:
· Review student agenda with your child.
· Set a consistent time when homework will be done every night.
· Provide a quiet place away from distractions such as television, electronics and telephone.
· Have your children practise mathematics, reading and writing skills daily.
· Talk to your children about what they are learning in school.
· Read together with younger children.
· Let your children help you in reading and writing, recipes, newspapers, letters, shopping lists.
· Encourage your children to ask the teacher for help if they find the work difficult or confusing.
· Keep in touch with the teachers and call when you have a question or a concern.
· Check that homework is completed.
· Praise and encourage children.
· Sign each mark or assessment brought home.
· Communicate with the teacher and review and sign the agenda daily.
Responsibilities of Teachers
· Vary assignments according to individual needs of students (IEP – Individual Education Plan).
· Ensure students’ understanding of homework assignments.
· Check assignments frequently.
We understand some students may use a cell phone for safety reasons before and after school or at the discretion of the staff. Please instruct your child to turn his/her cell phone off while on school property (in case of emergency please contact the school office). Students’ cell phones must be set to silent mode throughout the instructional day and stored in their school bags out of view except when their use is permitted by the educator under certain circumstances.
(a) Students may attend school and school-related functions in dress of their choice that conforms to following system standards (TDSB Student Dress Policy P042).
(b) Student dress must:
Be worn in such a way that all bottom layers cover groin and buttocks and top layers cover nipples, both with opaque material.
Tops may expose shoulders, abdomen, midriff, neck lines and cleavage.
Bottoms may expose legs, thighs and hips.
Undergarments may not be substituted as outwear and, if worn, should be worn beneath a layer of outer wear.
Straps and waistbands may be exposed, however.
Any headwear that does not obscure the face may be worn.
Conform with established health and safety requirements for the intended activity.
Respect the TDSB’s intent to sustain a community that is positive, anti-oppressive, equitable, accepting and inclusive of a diverse range of social and cultural identities.
Not promote offensive, lewd, vulgar, or obscene images or language, including profanity, hate and pornography.
Not promote, nor, could not be construed to include content that is discriminatory or reasonably could be construed as defamatory, threatening, harassing or promoting bias, prejudice or hate (e.g., racist, anti-Black, anti-Indigenous, anti-Semitic, Islamophobic, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, classist, ableist, etc.)
Not symbolize, suggest, display or reference: tobacco, cannabis, alcohol, drugs or related paraphernalia, promotion or incitement of violence or any illegal conduct or criminal activities
