The following activities will occur during terms 1 & 2:
Students are marked on the following in Physical Education:
All students, in all grade levels, are expected to change into clothing appropriate for participation in vigorous physical activity. The school will NOT be offering a gym uniform for students to purchase this year as it negates many concerns from socioeconomic views in that all students will be able to dress similarly. These clothes should be different from the clothing being worn during the rest of the day. This clothing includes the following:
Students are expected to practice good change room etiquette (respect and support for property & others). We also encourage the use of deodorant or antiperspirant at the end of P.E. class. Most P.E. classes will be vigorous, and if a student is participating properly, s/he will be sweating at the end of the period. Use of deodorant or antiperspirant will prevent body odour from becoming an issue during the school day. Students are asked to avoid using strong scented deodorants, antiperspirants, perfumes and body sprays in the change rooms, out of respect for those in the school who are sensitive or allergic to strong scents.
Failure to adhere to the guidelines can result in removal from the class activity (affecting their mark focused on participation and skill application) but will be conducting a task to ensure he/she will remain active accomplishing the minimum standard for daily physical activity.
For health benefits, youth aged 5-17 years should accumulate at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous intensity when it comes to physical activity. These activities should be done at least 3 times per week (your child isn't going to get this just by going to gym classes). The activities chosen are expected to strengthen muscle and bone as your child grows. The more the activity, the greater the health benefits!!!

Our school is teaching the Human Development & Sexual Health curriculum that has been approved by the Ministry of Education and that is required for all students in the province.
The curriculum is intended to promote healthy, responsible choices for students by providing them information about health topics, teaching them skills such as decision-making and media literacy and by encouraging them to discuss their health concerns with their parents and qualified health professionals.
Sexual health education is a part of that program and is offered to all grades here at CR. The program is mandatory for all students to be participating in. However, it is understood that some families may exempt their child from these classes.
The following topics (for Grades 6, 7 & 8) will be covered in order to achieve the goal already mentioned:
Grade 6:
Grade 7:
Grade 8:
Research clearly shows that classroom-based health education is far more effective if it can be combined with active involvement from parents and includes strong links to health services in the community. We encourage you to become informed about our program and use every opportunity to discuss health issues with your child(-ren). We also encourage you to help your child/teen learn to access preventive health services provided by physicians (doctors) and clinics in our community.
Dance is a universal activity with various form and styles that students will be able to express themselves, share their culture(s) and tell stories. This program expects to improve overall participation, health and quality of life for students of all abilities requiring no previous dance experience. The CR Dance Program will no longer be in the classroom with homeroom teachers and will be re-introduced into Physical Education programming commencing in January 2020. The program will have a focus on the elements of dance with using school-wide cultural events as culminating tasks to apply their learning from classes.
