Anime and Manga Club

The Anime Club is a gathering of fans of Japanese comics (manga) and animation (anime). We watch shows, hold contests, listen to music, create art and have fun discussing and learning about our favourite hobby! 

Art Club

Bethune Art Club is a welcoming space where students can drop in to make arts and crafts. From pins to beaded bracelets, every meeting gives students a new fun activity to get creative with.

Bears Take Action

Bears Take Action is a social outreach club that focuses on alleviating challenges that affect many in our community. We aim to address these issues through campaigns that bring awareness and create action. Students will work together throughout the year to do volunteer work, raise funds, and educate the school community about social justice issues.

Bethune Christian Fellowship (BCF)

A place for all students and teachers to learn about who Christ is, build a relationship with Him, and spread God's love. We come together not only because we want to, but because it is according to God's will. New members are always welcome, stop by whenever you want.

Bethune Science Club

The Bethune Science Club is a general club open to all students. They strive to encourage STEM learning for all Bethune students. Science Club hosts engaging science workshops, participates in science contests, and invites guest speakers to host presentations.

Breakfast Club

Description: Breakfast club allows students to serve nutritious breakfast items to students, and plan events to promote nutrition. Students get community service hours for the time spent volunteering. Recruitment for new members will be available in September.  Students will be assigned to shifts Monday-Friday, Before school

Chess Club

Staff Advisors: Mr. McCabe

The chess club was designed to give students an opportunity to learn the game of chess, improve their chess skills, and to enjoy challenging their peers, while experiencing healthy competition and team spirit. Chess is used to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making. While the students had the chance to track their progress, the main focus was to encourage learning, sportsmanship, and fun. 

Chinese Association

Staff Advisor: Ms. Yeung

The Chinese Association Club invites the Bethune community to celebrate Chinese culture at the school. Inclusive and fun activities are organized for awareness of key seasonal holidays. Other events raise school spirit by encouraging student participation.

Computer Science Club

A friendly environment to have fun learning to code, prepare for Waterloo CCC, compete in Bethune's Hackathon and PicoCTF . Those who have NO coding experience and those who have coding experience are all welcome.

Crossword Club

Crossword Club is a new Bethune club dedicated to the noble art of crossword puzzles. We meet every Tuesday at lunch in Room A211 where we solve new puzzles from the New York Times (and occasionally produce our own crosswords). 

Cupcake Decorating Club

Staff Advisors: Ms. Makris

Students will learning the art of piping techniques to decorate cupcakes and cakes. Each Month there will be a different theme.

Club Francophone (French Club)

A Club where we promote francophone cultures around the world to Bethune's community through various events that we will be hosting. Come and enjoy the amazing food and experiences!

Crochet Club

The Bethune Crochet Club is a group of students who learn to create small projects from just a hook and some yarn. This club is welcome to anyone who wants to learn. The goal is to help people turn their imaginations into something they can keep

Dance Club

Revolution Dance Crew was formed by a group of young women who choreographed and performed a dance piece in the TDSB Creates Showcase at the Meridian Centre for Performing Arts. It's a club for Bethune students who love to dance, while maintaining a competitive dance crew made up of members who audition and want to perform on stage.

Design @ Bethune

Staff Advisors: Mr. Mueller

Design@Bethune is for all students interested in any aspect of design. Past activities and competitions have included: build challenges, software (graphic and CAD, with 3D printing), woodworking, and traditional graphic design.  Competitions are from March to May. The club participates in school wide fundraisers such as The Ten Most Wonderful Days of the year (December).  

Drama Club

Staff Advisor: Ms. Rzezniczek

This is a club open to all students at Bethune, who have an interest in acting, directing, or technical theatre. Club members will be interviewed, and after being accepted into the club, auditions will be held for acting roles. Please be advised that this club requires a year-long commitment, and once rehearsals get underway, actors meet twice a week at lunch. Applications for new members are accepted at the start of each school year. There will be an interview/audition for new members. 

Dungeons and Dragon Club

Staff Advisor: Ms. Ginou

Games Club includes a variety of informal fun board games and organized Dungeons and Dragons Role Playing Games. New members are always welcome, stop by whenever you want. 

Gender Sexual Alliance (GSA)

Staff Advisors: Mr. Oortwyn and Mr. Sherani

The GSA is a safe place to learn and promote acceptance. Everyone is welcome.

Library Helpers

Staff Advisor: Ms. Blom

Library Helpers work to assist teacher-librarians with tasks in the library, including checking in/out books to students and staff, shelving books, and general upkeep of the library. Students will have between 1-3 shifts per week (before school or at lunch). Library helpers are responsible for keeping track of their volunteer hours, which can be used towards your 40 hours of community service that are required for graduation. Applications are accepted at the start of the school year. Shifts will be determined based on your stated availability on your application. Students are assigned regular weekly shifts

MOS Certification Club

Staff Advisor: Mr. J. Lee

Bethune's MOS Certification Club seeks to help candidates obtain their certifications. Members offer tips and practise hints for creating and editing documents for a variety of purposes and situations. Our goal is to help prepare for the Certification exam by covering the ability to create and maintain professional-looking reports, multicolumn newsletters, résumés, and business correspondence. 

Mural Club

Staff Advisors: Ms. van Buren and Ms. Rappos 

We meet up once a week to paint lockers to beautify the school with murals. 

Muslim Student Association

Staff Advisors: Mr. Dharamshi

Bethune's Muslim Student Association serves students by facilitating activities that allow them to fulfill their religious obligations, form bonds with their peers, and portray Islam to both Bethune and our neighbouring community. It provides a safe space for Muslim students to socialize as well as a platform for them to discuss any religious, social or academic concerns. It is also welcoming towards students of other faiths that would like to gain a better understanding of Islam and clarify any misconceptions about Islam in today’s society.

Podcast Club

Staff Advisor: Ms. Rzezniczek 

This club is open to all students who are interested in recording audio podcasts for the school's podcast series Bear_on_Air. Podcast members meet to discuss topics for podcast episodes, learn how to record podcasts, and share their ideas with the student community. There is no experience required. Students can record individually or with others. There is no requirement to record a podcast in order to be part of the club. Everyone is welcome!

Prom Committee

The Bethune Prom Committee is a group of executive students from Grade 11-12 who help fundraise and organize the annual prom for the graduating class. Through these fundraisers, they hope to provide an affordable and fantastic event for every student attending!

Skateboarding Club

Staff Advisor: Mr. Bowring

Bethune Skateboard Club is a drop-in group that includes the best parts of a fitness club and a social club. Utilizing the local Fundy Bay skate park, we get together to learn how to skateboard, have fun and enjoy a sport that is both urban and outdoors! All skill levels are welcome, from absolute beginners to Olympians! 

Spanish Club

The Spanish club promotes Latino culture within the school community. We host meetings, events, and fundraisers that allow us to celebrate and share the rich and diverse Hispanic world at Bethune.

Strength and Flexibility Club

Staff Advisor: Ms. Chow

This club provides students with strong core, stability, and flexibility with various exercises. There are progressions from arm balances to headstands working towards handstands. Moreover, athletes learn to work together and perform partner balancing. This requires a lot of strength and technique. 

Tamil Student Association 

Staff Advisors: Ms. Elanthirayan, Ms. Seevakireedam, and Mr. Sherani

Tamil Student Association (TSA) is open to everyone interested in learning more about Tamil heritage! As a first year club, our goal has been to share and celebrate the rich Tamil heritage within the Bethune community.

White Pine Book Club

Description: Students will read and discuss the books nominated by the Ontario Library Association for the White Pine Award.  There are typically 10 different books to choose from, and multiple copies available in the library. New members are always welcome, stop by whenever you want.  We meet monthly, beginning in November after school in the Library.

Young Women on the Move

Young Women on the Move (YWM) empowers girls to be agents of change utilizing confidence and courage to create a caring and positive world. YWM aims to increase the awareness of issues relevant to young women, create spaces for young women to dialogue, and proactively involve young women in social justice activities.
