Laboratory of Medicine & Biotechnology

Tzu-Chi Unviersity

About the Department

The department was founded in 1994 to prepare students to become professionals in laboratory medicine and biotechnology. For equipping students, we offer biology related courses to enrich their foundation, and clinical skill courses to enhance their capabilities. The University also provides laboratories and facilities to assist students to carry out experiments and develop data analytics skills. Before graduation, students must take the internship program at a hospital for six months, to apply what they have learned in a clinical environment.

Those who have completed their undergraduate studies have many choices. Some decide to pass the license exam and practice as medical laboratory scientists in Taiwan; others choose to pass the exam associated with the American Society for a Clinical Pathology International Certificate. Some elect to work for the biotechnology industry; others pursue their advanced studies.

The Master’s Program was opened in 2003. Besides than offering medical research courses, introduction to the biotechnology industry, and seminars, the department assists students in carrying out biomedical research; thus, they acquire knowledge in biotechnology, and enhance their experiment design and data analytics. Moreover, they gain experience in writing and presenting research papers. Our Master’s Program welcomes the college graduates who have studied biology.

Research activities cover the fields of virology, bacteriology, oncology, immunology, mass spectrometry for biological samples, toxicity analysis, drug delivery, antibody preparation, and bioinformatics. Please check our faculty webpage for details.
