1. Create list of schools you plan to apply; Write down your deadlines for each school (are you choosing an early deadline or regular deadline)
2. Are you planning to retake the ACT or take the SAT? See dates and deadlines to register online here. Consider all the dates and deadlines and make sure you will have scores in time to meet college deadlines. Looking for Test Optional schools? Check out fairtest.org.
3. If you are applying to any North Carolina school, complete the RDS (Residency) process to verify in state tuition.
4. Set up a FSA ID for student and at least one parent. Will need both when you complete your FAFSA. SAVE YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORDS
5. Complete your FAFSA! This is free so you can apply for financial aid. *Opens December 2023 for the Class of 2024!
6. Choose which application method you need
- Choose Application Hub with CFNC if all your schools are in North Carolina
- Choose Common App if multiple schools you want use it or require it (this is not for every college)
- Choose individual college websites, if you cannot use the above options
*Keep logins (username/passwords) safe and somewhere you will remember
7. Make sure to request your transcript is sent. Learn how to send a Transcript
8. Check to make sure you have all application components in by application deadline (recommendations, transcripts, test scores, etc.)
9. Look for scholarships and apply to as MANY as you can! See Scholarship page for more information.
10. Check your email DAILY. Once you apply colleges will send you emails with reminders and important information. You may consider using a personal email since the school email will go away quickly after you graduate. Be sure to keep your emails and email address appropriate.

a. The student shall complete a minimum of four NCSCOS arts courses.
b. The student shall earn an unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher in each arts credit.
c. The student shall complete a minimum of 40 hours of arts-related extracurricular
activities.
i. The student shall participate in an arts-related extracurricular activity approved
by the local board of education.
ii. The student shall complete all of the required hours outside of instructional
hours.
iii. The student shall not receive any course credit for participation in the activity.
iv. In accordance with State Board guidance, the student shall document the hours
on the form provided to local boards of education.
