First Grade science and social studies focuses on communities. One of our big units involves studying lion prides while looking at things like habitat, social structure, mammalian characteristics, and shared resources. We conclude this unit with a "Lion Pride Day" where students are welcome to dress up like a lion (or other savanna cat)!
Our art curriculum focuses on various famous artists from around the world, such as Piet Mondrian. We learn about the elements of art while studying each artist's unique style and methods and learning about their lives.Â
First Grade and Fifth Grade students are paired up with a buddy to come together throughout the school year to read to each other. The first graders love listening to, and reading to their buddies, and get especially excited to say hi to their buddies when they see them around school!
First Grade spends the last few weeks of school reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. We continue with our first grade theme of communities by looking at the different types of communities in the book including the magical community and the different Hogwarts houses. We conclude the novel study with a magical Day at Hogwarts!
