With a feminist lens always activated in our research, we recognized the importance of making our project accessible and usable to everyone. Our initial plan was an in-person exposition, and with the necessary steps taken due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our transformation involved much more than pasting content from one place to another.
We were mindful in the font style and size we used, and the color palette in order to increase readability of the webpage. We also tried to incorporate audio features in the website to enhance access of the information to our audience.
Having to work collaboratively from miles away from each other was a feat that we had to face, making sure that whatever platform we used was easily usable for everyone on the team.
This is important to consider for those with visual impairments, as well as those who only have access to a smartphone or other device that has a smaller screen, in order to ensure that the information was readable.
In order to make sure that our information was displayed in a cohesive and coherent way, we took into consideration the trickle down order of how we presented our information. This can be seen in the decision of where certain subpages were categorized, as well as removing prior existing pages that now seemed redundant.
As the bulk of our informaiton was presented in a digital type style, we tried to find a translating tool that could read all information out loud for those who are visually impaired. Unfortunately, we were unable to come upon a tool that we could access that worked sufficiently, and instead tried to include at least one video or podcast related to each subtopic.
Many people seeking counseling thrive off of the interpersonal one on one relationships that they build with their counselors. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many counselors have resorted to telecommunication counseling. This form may lack the intimacy of meeting in person, however, it opens the possibility of those who cannot access transportation or fear being seen in person to seek help.
