OYAP is designed to provide Grade 11 and 12 students with the opportunity to participate in a skilled profession through cooperative education and work experience programs. In some cases, students formally begin their apprenticeship training.
OYAP provides opportunities for students to participate in an apprenticeship occupation while enrolled in a secondary school program leading to an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
The Toronto Catholic District School Board is very proud of its rich tradition and of the enormous work that our teachers put forth in giving all our students the opportunity to reach their full potential. Having said that, we also recognize that many of our programs, particularly our OYAP based programs, would benefit a great deal from the guidance and assistance from many of the post secondary or training institutions that exist within the GTA. Humber College, Seneca College, Local 27, Centennial College, Local 675, and George Brown College, are just some of the many officially recognized Training Delivery Agents by the Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities that focus on and offer apprenticeable programs in the skilled professions.
In order to give our students a more enriching experience while out at their work placement, we have affiliated with several institutions in the Greater Toronto Area. This will provide our students with the opportunity to work towards and/or attain their Level One in Apprenticeship pertaining to one of the 'Accelerated' programs offered by the Toronto Catholic District School Board. Students will be exposed to state of the art technology and taught by professional instructors in a post secondary educational setting. This will allow students to develop skills recognized within the specific industry.
Students will continue to earn credits towards a high school diploma while participating in the OYAP 'Accelerated' program and in many cases, may "earn while they learn"
