Grade 9 De-streamed Courses
All Grade 9 students will take classes in one stream versus an applied or academic track (Geography, English, French, Science, and Math)
Students can select locally developed for Math, English, and Science in Grade 9 if their grade 8 teacher or IEP recommends that level of study
Students new to Canada are also eligible to take ESL (levels A to E)
What is de-streaming?
Streaming means separating students into different course types such as Academic and Applied.
De-streaming means that schools will no longer offer streamed courses in grade 9.
Why are courses being de-streamed?
Research shows that de-streaming results in better outcomes for students, particularly for those who are from marginalized communities.
How will students with Special Education Needs be supported?
Teachers will implement the Individual Education Plan for students who have Special Education needs.
Teachers will continue to work collaboratively with Special Education Resource Teachers to support students in Secondary School.
Locally Developed courses will continue to be offered.
Alternate Courses: Alternate courses are there in case we cannot schedule the first elective choice onto the timetable due to compulsory courses conflicting with the elective course period availability.
