At St. Mary Catholic Academy we believe that the arts enrich the academic lives of all students. We offer an exciting program that includes Dramatic Arts, Music, and Visual Arts. We also offer enriched courses in Theatre and Visual Arts in preparation for students interested in continuing the Arts in the International Baccalaureate program as well as Adaptive Arts for our Exceptional students.
National Theatre School Drama Festival
Our school has participated for the last several years in the National Theatre School Drama Festival. It has provided an opportunity for our students to take part in creating and performing fresh and relevant theatre productions. Carnations Grow in Canada was about the Portugese immigration experience; Another Me explored young people learning to manage their mental illnesses in healthy and sustainable ways. Both won Awards of Excellence at the District level and were selected to perform at the University of Toronto's Hart House Theatre. We are currently creating a new original play about Dufferin Grove Park, and shared park spaces in ubran landscapes. This production will also integrate live music, dance and poetry.
Welcome to the world of visual arts at St. Mary Catholic Academy. Throughout the school year, students have the opportunity to express themselves through the exploration of various art media, learn about artists, find out what art tells us about our past, explore career pathways, and discover that art is everywhere. In addition, students realize that art is integrated into every subject they study in school and that we bring all of them into the art studio. Students have the opportunity to participate in various art contests held throughout the year, meet other guest artists and experience art in the 'real world' through our in-person and virtual field trips.
