What is cell specialization?
Cell specialization, also known as differentiation, is the process in which cells become specialized cells types with certain functions and characteristics. Specialized cells play a major role with the regeneration of tissues, skin and blood, which are always in need of repair and renewal.
How are cells specialized?
Not specialized cells become specialized through a process called differentiation. This process involves turning on or off genes, leading to different protein being produced that gives the cell a unique structure and function
Examples of Specialized Cells
The nerve cell's main function is to transmit information throughout the body
The muscle cell's main function is to create movement and force in the body
The red blood cell's main function is to transport oxygen from the lungs to the body's tissues and organs.
