English Language Arts Curriculum

HMH is a K–8 comprehensive literacy curriculum aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for English Language Arts (NJSLS-ELA). The curriculum develops students’ reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, language, and critical-thinking skills while fostering independence, confidence, and a growth mindset.

TCCS is committed to an inclusive, student-centered ELA program that supports diverse learners, including students with disabilities and multilingual learners. Instruction incorporates differentiation, accommodations, scaffolding, intervention, enrichment, and multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate learning. Through diverse and inclusive literature and informational texts, students are exposed to varied cultures, identities, perspectives, abilities, and experiences as required by applicable New Jersey mandates.

The ELA program also includes foundational literacy, handwriting, and cursive instruction. Cursive handwriting is explicitly taught in grades 3–5 in accordance with New Jersey requirements. Across all grades, students are encouraged to become confident, independent readers, effective writers, thoughtful communicators, and lifelong learners.
