Throughout the school, one often hears the word "hot spot" or "outdoor classroom," which is different from a traditional classroom setting. These two phrases would make one wonder, what do they look like? Munford schools take pride in numerous shared outdoor classrooms located on the three campuses. Below are snapshots of some of the outdoor classrooms. Students learn and participate in content related projects outside of the realms of a traditional classroom setting. Instead of using textbooks, lectures, video, or internet as instructional tools, the outdoor classroom exposes students through direct experiences with nature areas and demonstration models such as bee hives, fisheries, and renewable energy sources. Our outdoor classrooms foster active, hands-on inquiry-based learning in a real-world setting. Through group problem solving activities, students embrace the learning process as well as seek final outcomes. Without a doubt, our students are exposed to multi-sensory, experiential learning as opposed to sitting in a desk for most of the day.
