Culturally Responsive Teaching

The STEM Stories project overall aims to highlight the connections between students of diverse racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and to develop practices to enrich STEM learning for all students in urban schools. We seek to bridge historic divides while also building bridges to STEM for Black and Latinx students; two populations highly underrepresented in STEM fields.

In the attempt to build student awareness of, interests in, and capacities to participate in STEM occupations or education, we recognize that this requires equitable and culturally-responsive strategies which expand students’ understanding of STEM practice beyond classroom lessons to real world applications.

STEM practices must be identified and celebrated within students’ families and communities!
