Research Question 4
Does test-taking behavior predict performance differently in students with and without disabilities?
Does test-taking behavior predict performance differently in students with and without disabilities?
Background:
Students with identified disabilities typically show lower performance, on average, on measures of academic skills (such as NAEP). Our prior published work found that of those students who received extended time accommodations, the students who actually used the extended time performed better. In our new project, we wanted to explore this relationship further, to see if the relationships between time use and performance vary across (a) students with disabilities who are eligible for extended time and (b) nondisabled students. Understanding that these relationships may also depend on item features (e.g., whether an item has a lot of text to read) and grade level (Grade 4 vs Grade 8), we will choose example items from our datasets to examine whether these relationships were consistent.
We are working on related analyses and will update with results when they are available.Â
