Maths
For our final week of Year 6 Maths lessons we will be completing a project where the students need to fully plan and cost a holiday. They will need to think about baggage allowances, percentage discounts of day activities, flight distances and prices and a lot more.
English
For our final week on the Year 6 curriculum, we will finish reading our class book 'Holes', and write creatively around it including ideas for an alternate ending.
IPC
We will be designing pots, potting plants and creating artwork to sell on Wednesday 22nd June 2023 after school as our final Year 6 exit point.
PSHE
This week we will be continuing to look at how to support our mental wellbeing.
World languages
For the final week of learning, we are going to reflect on our language learning skills and language preferences.
Music
We are going to practise our Graduating song and our other songs for the Celebration Assembly Friday.
Nepali

This week we will be continuing our work on ratio, and using what we learnt last week to solve ratio word problems. On Friday we will have our end of unit assessment. Zearn Homework assigned on Friday will support with this.

This week we will continue our unit on persuasive writing; developing our vocabulary and understanding and applying the key features of a piece of persuasive writing, this will be building to some formal class debates as well. We will also be practicing linking ideas in paragraphs through a range of cohesive devices. In guided reading the children will be looking at writing and text marking to identify ket features which will then feed into their writing.

This week we will begin on our work on ratio, looking at visual representations and then moving on to using ratio to count quantities. We will also be recapping on previously learnt topics at the start of each lesson to make sure we dont forget what we learnt in Terms 1, 2 and 3. Please encourage your child to practice calculations at home and access Zearn for their weekly maths homework.

This week we will be rounding off our learning on the properties of shape with some work on 3D net making, problem solving and an assessment on Thursday. We will then consolidate the learning on Friday with the children creating their own quiz questions on the whole unit of shape.
English
We will be finishing off Beowulf this week, and spending time giving opinions of a text and justifying them. The children will also be spending time developing descriptive writing and trying to include some of the more complex examples of figurative language they have been studying, including kennings, to their writing.
IPC
This week we will be continuing our research into ancient civilizations. We will be holding a formal style debate on Monday that the children should prepare for over the weekend and then moving to look at the Islamic empire for the remainder of the week. This will build to the creation of websites by the students on one of the civilizations they have researched in this unit.
PSHE
We will be spending one more week looking at human rights and their importance in our society. The children will be working on projects that show their understanding of the subject.
World languages
We will extend our number knowledge and start to learn about Earth Day and its importance.

This week we will continue our reading on Beowulf, exploring the language and literery devices used in this epic, ancient story. This week we move on the the next story of Beowulf and another hideous monster! The children will be using kennings, alliteration and similes in their creative writing
IPC
In IPC we continue our work on ancient civilizations and will be fcousing more closely on the rise and fall of the Kingdom of Benin in western Africa.
PSHE
In PSHE we will be continue to look into our Human Rights and also be learning about Downs Syndrome as part of our celebrating differences topic!
World languages
We will extend our number knowledge to numbers over 20 in Chinese.

This week in music I will asses the students on their ukulele and singing skills while performing a song they know really well (Best day of my life) and we are going to start a new song.

This week we will continue our work with time, specifically timetables before moving on to begin working on geometry and properties of shape. This will focus on using a protractor to measure angles and looking at angles in different shapes.

This week we will continue our reading on Beowulf, exploring the language and literery devices used in this epic, ancient story.
IPC
In IPC we have science week this week. We will be conducting a measuring and cooking session where we will need parents to send in sealed containers. The children will be using their new found measuring skills to make a Mayan Chocolate sorbet recipe linking in with our IPC studies. These will need to be finished with freezing and mixing at hom, we can send instructions to follow. Students will also learn more about the scientific process through an experiment using ancient sundials.

This week the children will be working on converting units of measure.

Excitingly, the children will be starting their new class book. They will be taking part in two Hook lessons before learning what the new book is, but here is a little clue : it is a very old classic full of excitement and adventure!

The children will be starting their new unit on ancient civilisations, developing their understanding of chronology and understanding the difference between first and second hand sources
PSHE
This week the children will be looking at human rights and developing their understanding of the link between rights and responsibilities.
World languages
We will learn how to say the numbers in Chinese.
Music
We will finish our songwriting project. Each team will have to finalise their lyrics, the music and practice one last time for their final performance! Each class will vote for the best song and that song will be sent to an international songwriting music competition!

This week we will be assessing our understanding of the units covered through a series of assessment papers on both arithmetic and reasoning and problem solving questions. The children were given revision questions to complete over the half term break to help them prepare for this.

This week we will be writing an alternate ending to our book Floodland, building on our understanding of constructing narratives that include dialogue.
IPC
This week the children will be working on their exit point for their unit, Earth as an Island. We will be sharing learning with parents on Friday.

Maths
The children will continue their work on translation, co-ordinates, reflection and negative numbers before completing a mini assessment on Friday, as part of our ongoing assessment process.
English
The children will continue reading Floodland by Marcus Sedgwick, creating character descriptions and creative writing and building on their understanding of figurative language including similes and metaphors.
IPC
This week the children will continue their Earth is an Island topic, learning how to read 6 figure grid references and developing their map work before beginnng to work on their exit point which they will share with parents when we return from the half term break.
PSHE
Year 6 will finish their work on understanding legal and illegal drugs including alcohol, and will learn about the risks linked with these substances.
World languages
We will continue with our Chinese lanterns.
Music
We will be working on our songwriting project. Each team has to write the lyrics of their song (verses and chorus) and choose which instruments they want to use to accompany their song. We will also keep practicing ukulele and keyboard to learn practice how we play chords.

This week Year 6 will be beginning their new topic on position and direction, looking at negative numbers, coordinates, translations and reflections

This week we will be continuing to read Floodland, looking at developing character description and creative passages using relative and embedded clauses.
IPC
Year 6 will be continuing their unit, Earth as an Island. They will be looking at case studies, globes and maps as well as physical and human Geography in contrasting localities. They will also be conducting science based experiments as part of their research.
PSHE
Year 6 will be looking at the causes of alcohol abuse and about the mixed messages in the media about drugs, including alcohol and smoking/vaping.
World languages
We will learn about the Chinese New Year celebrations and learn how to say the colours.
Music
We continue our keyboard and ukulele journey! We will learn how to play chords on the keyboard to be able to accompany songs.
