This Week's Learning

Week Beginning: 26th June 2023 Term 4 Week 11

Our week will be full of fun filled activities. On Monday we will have our end of year celebration assembly and on Tuesday we will go swimming. Please ensure that child is in school by 8.10am on Monday.

On Wednesday we will be having a STEM based day where the children will do a carousel of STEM related activities and then on Thursday we will visit Forest School for the final time this academic year.

Friday will be the last day of the school year. Thank you for all your support over the course of the year!

We will be doing a range of activities which encourages the children to recognise and count syllables in words and encouraging the children to generate their own rhymes.

The children will also be playing a range of 'Gingerbread Man' maths related games and undertake an experiment to see if a Gingerbread Man can swim!

We will have two focus stories this week, 'The Tiny Seed' by Eric Carle and 'Don't Throw That Away' by Lara Bergen.

Song of the Week

We will sing the song '10 Green Bottles' and act out the rhyme with props that we will make out of recycled materials.

Skills Focus

This week we will plant seeds ready to develop our EYFS garden and talk about how we can care for them.

We also use the story 'The Tiny Seed' to introduce the idea of using adjectives and continue to explore print in the environment.

World languages

We will continue to learn rhymes and songs from around the world.

Music

We will continue to explore the sounds and timbres of different instruments in the classroom, dance and sing!

Nepali

We will have two focus stories this week. 'Thank You. Earth' by April Pulley Sayre and 'Don't Throw That Away' by Lara Bergen.

Song of the Week

We will sing environmental related songs: 'Let's go for a walk outside' and 'Recycle'.

Skills Focus

April 22nd is Earth Day so we will be having a special environment related week. The children will be thinking about what is special about our planet, and undertake nature walks. They will also be introduced to the 3 R's (recycling, reusing and reducing).

We will also be consolidating our phonics units covered so far.


World languages

We will continue to learn rhymes and songs from around the world.

Music

After the break, we are going to learn a new song about our planet and play ukulele and percussion instruments. 


We will explore the sounds and the music of the ocean with instruments and we will move to music while becoming different creatures of the sea. 

Nepali

We will continue to learn about our house (focus on kitchen utensils and objects in Nepali) and Nepali Mother's day. घर, भान्छा कोठा, चम्चा, काँटा, टेबुल, प्लेट, दराज, आमा,माया आदि ।।

We will have two focus stories this week. The first story is 'Dear Zoo' which we will read and encourage the children's to recall and retell events of the story. The second story is 'Where's Joe?' from Phonics Shed.

Song of the Week

We will sing various counting songs such as 'How many fingers?'.

Skills Focus

We will be consolidating our 'left to right' phonics focus and exploring different types of print in the environment.

Through the use of the 'Where's Joe ' book we will also develop the children's understanding of position e.g. Joe is under the table.

Finally, we will be discussing and making crafts linked to the celebrations of EID and Easter.

World languages

We will continue to learn rhymes and songs from around the world.

Music

We will explore the sounds and the music of the ocean with instruments and we will move to music while becoming different creatures of the sea.

We will continue to focus on the traditional tale of '3 Little Pigs' encouraging the children to recall and retell the story in their own words and to sequence the events of the story.

Our song of the week will be 'Hokey Cokey' where the children have to copy the actions of the song using left and right instructions.

Skills Focus

We will look at Element 7 of our phonics programme which is called 'From Left to Right'. 

The children will also practise programming a code-a-pillar to send it in different directions, left, right, or forwards.

World languages

We will continue to learn rhymes and songs from around the world.

Music

We will play different instruments while following the conductor, we will sing a new song and move to the music.

Nepali

Skills Focus

We will be using the '3 Little Pigs' story to undertake lots of construction related challenges and simple science investigations. The children will predict and then test which objects they can blow and move with a straw.

We will also continue to look at Element 5 of our phonics programme which relates to voice sounds.

We will play different instruments while following the conductor, we will sing a new song and move to the music.

Our story of the week will be 'Joe's Walk' from the Phonics Shed catalogue.

Song of the Week

Our song of the week will be 'Busy Bees Counting Song'.

Skills Focus

We are beginning to look at Element 5 of our phonics programme which relates to voice sounds. This week we will start by looking at specific sounds and mouth movements. This will be great preparation for saying the discrete letter sounds in Chapter 2.

We will also be using 5 and 10 number frames to vote for stories that we would like to read in class.

World languages

We will continue to learn rhymes and songs from around the world.

Music

We will continue to explore the different instrument families, play different percussion instruments, we'll move to the music and learn a new song. 

Nepali

Week Beginning: 27th February 2023 Term 3 Week 7

 Story of the Week

On Monday, Mr. Palmer will come to read 'The Smartest Giant in Town' by Julia Donaldson so this will be our focus story of the week. 

We will also have the opportunity to go and buy a new book on Thursday which we will read with the children and then keep in class.

Skills Focus

As we are celebrating Book Week in the Primary School we will be participating in a range of literature themed events which will help to develop our listening skills and promote a love of books.

In the story 'The Smartest Giant in Town', George the Giant buys lots of new items of clothes. We will have a range of these items in the class and encourage the children to put them into size order and match up the different patterns.

World languages

We will continue to learn rhymes and songs from around the world.

Music

We will continue to explore the different instrument families, play different percussion instruments, we'll move to the music and learn a new song. 

Nepali

We will learn about Nepali festival, Holi. We will also learn the names of prime colours in Nepali. होली पर्व, रातो, पहेँलो, निलो

Week Beginning: 20th February 2023 Term 3 Week 6


Story of the Week

We have two focus stories this week 'Toddle Waddle' by Julia Donaldson and 'We Are Music' by Brandon Stausey.

Song of the Week


We will listen to the song 'Victor Vito' by Laurie Berkner and revisit a song which sang previously in class called 'Wind the Bobbin up'. 

Skills Focus

in phonics we are developing the children's ability to distinguish, identify and talk about music sounds. The children will have the opportunity to make their own musical instruments which they can then bring home to use!


We will also continue to work on our subitising skills. Subitising is the ability to instantaneously recognise the number of objects in a small group without needing to count them and is a great for a child's mathematical development.

World languages

We will continue to learn rhymes and songs from around the world.

Music

We will continue to explore the different instrument families, play the conductor game while playing percussion instruments and we'll move to the music using colourful scarves. 

Nepali

We will learn about food and taste in Nepali. खाना र स्वाद

Story of the Week-

Our story of the week is 'Rumble in the Jungle' by Giles Andreae and David Wojtowcyz.

We will also read a counting story called 'Abigail' by Catherine Rayner.

Song of the Week

Our songs of the week will be 'Old MacDonald had a Farm' and 'Who took the cookies from the cookie jar?'.

Skills Focus

This week we will be consolidating the phonics skills that we have been developing so far; listening to environmental sounds, developing our fine and gross motor skills and using our body to make sounds (body percussion). We will also focus on name recognition and practice writing our names. 

World languages

We will continue to learn rhymes and songs from around the world.

Music

We will continue to discover new instruments from different family, and sing, dance and play high/low, soft/loud and fast/slow sounds.

Nepali

We will learn about domestic animals in Nepali. घर पालुवा जनावरहरु

PE

We will be doing a range of activities that help to develop our gross motor and teamwork skills.

Library

We will continue learning rhyming stories and we will focus on the story ‘Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?’

Week Beginning: 30th January 2023 Term 3 Week 4


Story of the Week-

Our story of the week is 'If You're Happy and You Know It' by Anna Mc Quinn and Sophie Fatus.

We will also continue to read the story '10 Little Fingers and 10 Little Toes'

Song of the Week

As well as continuing to sing the songs that help to develop our fine (Tommy Thumb) and gross motor skills (Shake Your Sillies Out) we will be singing a range of songs that involve using our bodies to make sounds such as as clapping our hands and stamping our feet.

Skills Focus

Our phonics focus for the week is body percussion so our stories and songs will reflect this focus. 

We will also talk about different parts of the body, focusing on our facial features. The children will look at different examples of self-portraits and be encouraged to paint their own self-portraits!

World languages

We will continue to learn rhymes and songs from around the world.

Music

We will continue to discover new instruments from different family, and sing, dance and play high/low, soft/loud and fast/slow sounds.

Nepali

We will start to learn Days of the Week in Nepali.


PE

We will be doing a range of activities that help to develop our gross motor and teamwork skills.

We will be learning Rhyming stories and we will focus on the story ‘The Bear Who Would Not Share.’





Friday 20th January 2023

Dear Parents,

Next week we will be focusing on motor skills as part of our phonics programme. The children will be doing a range of activities and learning new songs that will help to develop both their fine and gross motor skills. Here is one action song that you could also try at home!

We will also read 2 stories that will help to support our motor skills activities, 'Rosie's Hat' by Julia Donaldson and 'Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes' by Mem Fox and Helen Oxenbury.

This week's Parent Information Session is on E-Safety. It will take place at 8am on Thursday 26th January in the Secondary Library.

Friday 13th January 2023

Dear Parents,

It was great to see how quickly the children settled back into the routines of school!

Next week, we will continue to develop our awareness of environmental sounds by playing fun games linked to the the story 'Peace at Last' and listening and talking about different weather sounds.

We will also learn a new weather related rhyme called 'I Hear Thunder' and a new counting song 'Ten in the Bed'. The children will have lots of opportunities to act out the rhymes with different role-play themed activities in the classroom!

Friday 16th December 2022

Dear Parents,

What a fun-filled end to Term 2 for the Foundation 1 students! This week we have participated in our first winter concert, had a special visitor from the North Pole and a little Christmas party!

Upon our return to school, we will begin Chapter 1 of our phonics programme by focusing on environmental sounds. We will undertake a listening walk around school and play lots of fun listening games. Our focus story will be 'Peace at Last', a story which features lots of different sounds both inside and outside. We also use the book to develop the children's understanding of a sequence of events.

On behalf of the EYFS team, we would like to wish you a safe and happy holiday period. We look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Tuesday 10th January 2023.

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for attending our craft workshop yesterday, we hope that both you and your child enjoyed it.

Next week, we will continue to rehearse for our concert which will take place on Wednesday 14th December at 13.30. We look forward to seeing you there.

We will also be busy undertaking lots of fun festive related activities and will prepare a letter to take to Santa who will be dropping in for a visit onThursday.

Dear Parents,

Next week, the students will be very busy rehearsing for their Winter Concert which will take place on Wednesday 14th December. On this day, we would like to ask that the children wear a black or brown outfit or a Christmas themed jumper. We are going to make our own festive-themed accessories for the show in school.

We will be talking about the season of winter in class and our focus story will be 'One Snowy Night' by Nick Butterworth. We also be learning two new songs linked to winter "1,2,3 Little Penguins and Little Snowflake".

Finally, the children will be busy preparing for our Christmas Craft Workshop which is on Thursday 8th December at 13.00. We are all looking forward to seeing you there.

Friday 25th November 2022

Dear Parents,

We hope that your child enjoyed their visit to the fruit shop and forest school. 

Next week, we will read a range of non-fiction stories related to the people who help us and will celebrate and thank the people who help us within school.

We have invited members of our school community to come and speak to us about their role and are going to prepare thank you cards for them. The children will also follow a recipe and measure out the ingredients to make muffins to hand out as gifts.

In addition, we will have a special class helper everyday who will help to complete tasks such as preparing drinks of water for their friends.

Please also note that for next week, PE lessons will be on Monday and Thursday. Our library lesson will be also be on Tuesday.
