Introduction
An animator’s job is hard but they can get paid really well depending on the type of work you do. Listening to others like workmates and art directors, working in a team and having a set goal is what some animators have to do. This may seem hard but to a great animator, they can pull through and deliver quality animations.Throughout this report, I will cover the things involving animation. This will also include what acts you could do right now to stand out from the rest when applying for the job of an animator.
What does being an animator involve?
With the job of an animator, they must produce multiple images which are called frames. When all the frames are put together in a sequence, it creates an illusion of movement. Being an animator involves being able to use software, models, photography and drawings to create images for movies, adverts, etc. An animator uses computer software to design 2D and 3D frames, frameworks, and animated content. Being an animator also means designing storyboards to illustrate the story for the movie/TV show. To produce animated films, animators have to work with people like storytellers, directors, voice actors and designers to produce films, video games, graphics or even commercials.
What are employers looking for in an animator?
Employers are looking for your drawing talent and how flexible you can be with the style of your animation. They also want you to have the ability to work with and inspire fellow co-workers. Recruiters look for you to have the ability to develop timing and pacing of motion which is based on the audio requirements. Another thing employers may look for is for you to have a demo reel of your best work. A demo reel will be very handy to show your employers all the work you’ve done. A demo reel must show past projects that have been a success and that you are proud of and feel is your best work.
What kind of qualifications will you need to become an animator?
To become an animator, you will need to get a bachelor's degree in computer animation, fine art or graphic art. Qualifications may include creating a portfolio of your designs and animations to show some prospective employers. Some qualifications may be wanting you to have experience prior to applying for the job. To get that experience, you could get internships or have freelance jobs animating for other people. Although a degree can help you, you could also get a HND ( Higher National Diploma ) in animation, film, television or photography. In a HND they aim to reach for an HND in 3D computer animation.
What competencies will you need to become an animator?
Some competencies include having teamwork, creativity and good memory. With these skills it will be great for you to create quality animations with your fellow animators. To be a successful animator, you need to have good drawing skills so you can impress your art director and make animations that look good. A soft competency you need to have is emotive communication. Animators need to get through to the viewer and make them feel the emotions that are happening on screen. They do this by thinking outside of the box. Sometimes emotive communication can be displayed using music to create emotive communication, tears from the voice actor and etc.
What qualities will make you successful in animation?
What people expect from animators is to have a creative mind and a strong with big imagination. These things you will need to have because you will create your own story and it needs to be great. A good animator needs to have patience. When animating, the art director may reject the frames an animator makes and they will have to take the time to draw it better. To be successful, you need to have attention to detail. If you are working on an animation and use attention to detail while adding it into the animation. If you do this, it will make your animation much better than if there was little detail.
What kind of skills and knowledge do you need to need in animation?
A skill you may need to have is good colour vision to have good animated visuals. Some skills include being able to work under stress and pressure successfully. They will also need the ability to meet tight deadlines when due. You will need to have knowledge of how to create models, use graphic software and computer literacy. Some knowledge you need to know is understanding how people and animals express different feelings and emotions in a lot of different ways. If you are an animator, you will need to have excellent drawing, painting and design skills if you are making models for a movie.

This graph shows the number of people in 6 different jobs of New Zealand. Through this graph it shows that in New Zealand there are under 250 people in the TV Journalist job. Web Designer is the most popular job with nearly 1000 people in that job. Web Designer and Animator were the 2/6 jobs to get over 500 people in the job.
Conclusion:
As you develop skills over your years, you will become a great animator.The deliberate acts you should do now is understand how to use graphic design software to create 2d/3rd models. You can learn to do these things through video tutorials and even practice by yourself. The more you practice, the more you will gain knowledge. This knowledge will help you later in life when applying for the job of an animator. Although it can be easy or hard for some people, it is possible and along with practicing art, this would be a good thing to do.
