Through the ages people have wondered how personalities are developed. Were you born and destined to like animals, or were you raised on a farm. People believe a lot of different things, some things are believed in more than others. I’d assume that most people believe in science and well that maybe true, there is one belief that seems outlandish, but is still used in today's society. This belief being zodiac signs. Zodiac signs piqued my interest when I was talking to one of my friends online, and also trying to see if my crush Zodiac matched mine ( but that's besides the point ). The point is after doing this miner research I found there is a lot more to Zodiac signs than meets the eye. So I decided to ask the question, is there a relationship between Zodiac signs and people’s personality and if so why? To give it to you straight, there's absolutely no connection to people's personality and Zodiac signs. In fact Zodiac signs are a myth from a scientific standpoint ( So I may have a chance with that crush after all ). In this inquiry, I’m going to tell you, what zodiac signs are, the origin of Zodiac signs, why Zodiac signs are inaccurate, and go deeper into my thesis.
There is more to Zodiac signs than meets the eye. Zodiac signs ( also known as sun signs ) are signs that are given to people that are born between a certain time period, there are 12 periods that cover all 365 days of the year. Attached to each period of time is there a sign that is based on either a god or animal, and people who are born in the time period have the same personality or traits that the animal or god is known for. And each god and animal have a story behind them, the history and storys come from Greek mythology. But Greek mythology isn’t the only mythology that is incorporated in Zodiac signs. Zodiac signs originated from Babylonian astronomy ( more on that later ).The reason they are also called sun signs, is because the sun fully determines your personality. Someone born in summer is going to have more sun time than someone born in winter. The way this works in a scientific way is the UV sun rays hitting being absorbed by you while you're in the womb. UV sun rays is the intensity of the sun rays hitting you and there are three different types of UV light, and so the type of UV light hitting your mum while you're in the womb determines your personality. But if anyone knows anything about UV sun rays it is that they don’t change based on if it's cold or not, they change based on solar flare and our ozone layer. This is one of three arguments that people who believe in Zodiac signs tell. The other two are based on temperature and time, both can and have been debunked by science. Another part of Zodiac signs are Horoscopes, Horoscopes are descriptions that you can find that will tell you your fate based on your Zodiac sign. For example, today's horoscope says that I might fall deeper with a romantic partner or someone close to me. And today is the day to make a deeper connection.
The origin of Zodiac signs come from Babylonian astrology ( astrology is the study of forecasting human events using the moon, sun and stars ). The time period for this was the first half of the 1st millennium BC, or about 1000 BC. But the term Zodiac originates from Greek mythology that means the circle of animals. From what I’ve gathered, babylonian astrology came first, but there is more than one concept of Zodiac signs, and Greek mythology also has a tie to Zodiac signs. But it isn't clear. The present day astrologers write the daily horoscopes and you can go and see them to see your fate.
Why are Zodiac Signs so Inaccurate
Too broad. The main reason I think that Zodiac signs are a myth is because the traits that are associated with each zodiac sign are far too broad. Zodiac signs take advantage of the Forer effect, which uses traits and emotions that everyone has used and everyone can relate to, but makes you feel like it's you. For example my Zodiac is aquarius, but I can relate to almost every other zodiac sign fully. Because I’ve been in a situation where I’ve used those traits. Another thing it takes advantage of is confirmation bais. Confirmation bias is people are more likey to prove their hypothesis then disprove, so if your horoscope said you were more likey to make new friends this week, you're going to try and prove that by being more talkative.
In Conclusion Zodiac signs are a Complete myth. They have an interesting concept but are incredibly flawed. Taking control of the way we think to make it seem as though they make sense. Zodiac signs have an interesting background with history but in today's world shouldn’t be used at all. Thanks for reading.
