In the Counterattack 9BKS tournament I am the defensive coach, it might not sound like much but when the real coach isn't present or can't perform his duties I step in, when this happens I hold the team on my shoulders and that is when i'm needed most. I plan strategies with the coach and captain, lastly I effectively evaluate my teams progress and well-being to make sure they're achieving their highest potential.

I demonstrate effective communication by solving immediate and future problems. I also help the other coach and captain by making drills; encouraging my teammates.

Ian Foster is the current coach of the all blacks. The whole team relies on Ian to make the big decisions otherwise they're toast, Ian organises their drills, warm-ups, and keeps track of their schedule. Ian keeps track of the well-being of all the all-blacks because it's important that they're alright not just because they need to be well for the game but also because as a human being they deserve to be alright.

Ian's effective communication applies in and out of the game. Ian makes sure that everyone is doing what they should be and encourages everyone to do their best, if there is an important change of schedule Ian makes sure everyone is informed. As you can see Ian makes sure that everyone is doing what they're supposed to, without him there isn't a team, they hopelessly crumble. I find it inspirational the way Ian holds up the team.

1) How did effective communication help you in Health and PE this term?

I use effective communication to communicate that I am open for a pass. This is important because in counter-attack we usually find that a teammate is blocked and therefore, another option is needed. When my teammates can see that I am available we do a surprise pass which surprises the other team. Giving a window for a counter-attack.

2) How does effective communication help you in other areas of your life?

Once my brother convinced my nana to take us to carl's junior for a treat. It was morning and I decided that burgers weren't a breakfast thing so I wanted to go to a nearby mcdonalds. My mom was the only one aware of this decision, when we pulled up to the drive- through I informed everyone of this decision, my dad said it was to complicated, my nana said to just get something from carl's junior. In the end we came to the conclusion that I would just get a milkshake and some chips from carl's, if I communicated better I wouldn't have ended up in that situation.

3) How can effective communication have a positive effect on EACH dimension

of your Hauora?

  • Physical Wellbeing - Taha Tinana

A couple weeks ago I went to the dentist, they asked me if i'd been having any teeth troubles. I kind of had a toothache except I thought it was an overestimation. I still sometimes get that toothache and wish I told the dentist.

  • Mental and Emotional Wellbeing - Taha Hinengaro

Right now my family are moving between houses and it has been hard for me. I tell my parents and they comfort me. Because I communicate, I can feel happy and okay.

  • Social Wellbeing - Taha Whanau

In all of my classes, it's a common thing to work in teams, if you have an argument with one of your friends, it can cause a bit of a rift between friends. And it turns a school problem, into a social problem. Class wellbeing can easily turn into social wellbeing if you don't communicate that you're sorry, things can't be fixed.

  • Spiritual Wellbeing - Taha Wairua

If you're going through a rebellious stage of life, you can have spiritual problems because spiritual wellbeing is based on the beliefs you hold close to your heart. You will probably be having trouble because you have broken one of your beliefs. This is a key moment to communicate this, tell anyone close to you and they can help you. This is really important.
