Why did Hoturoa Leave hawaiki

INTRO: Hoturoa the great chief of tainui waka. He is one of many ancestors here is why he immigrated to new Zealand. Hoturoa son of auaukiterangi and father of Hotuope kapa a rangi kahukeke poutekika. He migrated from hawaiki some say there was not enough resources and food left on hawaiki. So hoturoa the brave chief stepped up because he was one of few who knew how to navigate with the stars. So he and a waka filled with keen people to leave hawaiki all were on a at least 2-3 month voyage to New Zealand.

PUSH FACTOR 1:The polynesians were superb at traveling with the only using the stars as a guide. When they first got to New Zealand When the Tainui waka reached Aotearoa its first landfall was at Whangaparaoa at the eastern end of the Bay of Plenty. On arrival, the captain of the waka Hoturoa, built an altar there to give thanks to the Gods for their safe arrival and to seek continuing protection and sanction for the future well-being of the ship's company.

PUSH FACTOR 2: I believe that Hoturoa left hawaiki because of land, land is the one the main reasons for war. Without much land, chiefs and iwi will be selfish to keep their land. But in a better situation they needed more land for more people.

PULL FACTOR 1:Eventually they reached the hauraki gulf and the waitemata where some others left the tainui waka and settled on the narrow isthmus which later became known as

Tamaki-makaurau.Hoturoa had two wives whakaotirangi and Marama, both of whom figure largely in the Tainui legend. The former is credited with beginning the cultivation of kumara in the new land.

PULL FACTOR 2: As well as the beautiful lakes, rivers, big fish, big shellfish and all of the land. There was no way they were leaving all of this land and kai for someone else to have.In my opinion i wouldn't leave nz to somewhere else.

DISCUSSION PUSH FACTOR: If i was in that situation where i was as skinny as bones and sticks i would probably find me a lot of fruit, fish, and heaps of shellfish. And I would find some more land and build a big wooden house or a flat.

DISCUSSION PULL FACTOR: With wonderful untouched land and beautiful waters came beautiful kai. There was a reason why they stayed at aotearoa there must have been big feeds, good water, and big maugas such as mauao, otanewainuku, and many more to see everywhere around them.

CONCLUSION: In conclusion hoturoa and his family got on with their lives and his two wives were one of the first to plant kumara. The waka was tied to this pōhutukawa tree, known as Tangi-te-korowhiti, and was later buried behind Maketū marae near the present-day township.
