INTRODUCTION
The topic I have chosen is how can countries best improve their green image ? As a country we project an image of a clean green paradise. We show Aotearoa as a home to a community that cherishes its environment and does everything it can to protect it. If only this projection was true. As a nation we are guilty of polluting our waterways, littering in our forest and poisoning our skies. Through this inquiry set out to determine how we should,as a nation, best ensure that this image is a reality. In doing so I address key concerns, identify possible solutions, and ultimately show and persuade you of the potential steps you could take to turn this clean green image into reality.
PUSH FACTOR 1
Last year New Zealand researched waste management and found out that 3.68kgs were coming out of New Zealand everyday.Human being’s have a massive impact on the freshwater environment. Almost all New Zealand rivers running through farms and urban areas are 90-95% polluted from cows and sheep.A american tourist said that New Zealand's excessive meat and dairy consumption is creating environmental disasters because farmers don't do enough to prevent cow manure from leaching into the water ways. While most of the nation's wetlands have been drained and most fresh water fish species are threatened or at risk at the moment. We may be seen as green & clean by the rest of the world, but we have significant
problems in NZ. In New Zealand we discard 15.5 million tonnes of rubbish every year. That is 3.200kg for every kiwi. Right now we only recycle 28 % of this waste.
PUSH FACTOR 2
The clean green image is now at risk and almost becoming a myth. The New Zealand government needs to stand up if they want New Zealand to stay as clean as it is now but it is not perfect. We have one of the only dolphin that live in New Zealand and that is the maui dolphin. They are at risk of being extinct. There are only 55-62 left around New Zealand. Thats the end.
