Introduction
In 1999 my dad emigrated from India to New Zealand. He left because of the lack of opportunities. My dad chose New Zealand because of the many opportunities that it offered. This inquiry looks at the push and pull factors that influenced my dad and many others to leave their homeland and move to the small island nation at the bottom of the South Pacific.
Push factor 1 war: in 1999 India detected Pakistani soldiers on top of the Kargil ridges. But a year before this in 1998 Pakistan had already had plans to attack India. The war lasted 60 days ending on the 26th of July. It caused the death of 527 Indian soldiers and 1363 were wounded. There were over 4000 Pakistani deaths and 665 wounded. It ended in an Indian victory.
Push factor 2 the economy and conditions: in India, the economy wasn’t faring well because of the recent war and the state it was in beforehand. There weren't many job opportunities and the conditions at the time were bad. and it had 1 billion people which means overpopulation. this overpopulation meant a lack of jobs which in return meant less money, less money meant less spending all of this meant a bad economy.
Pull factor 1 condtitons: New Zealand was a flourishing country at the time and was filled with job opportunities. Its economy was doing good and the living conditions were great. The country was beautiful and the crime rate was low compared to India.
Pull factor 2 safety: another reason my dad might have left India was safety. Much like the last reason, New Zealand was relatively safe. New Zealand doesn’t have that many enemies. The ones that it does are far and the nearest land to New Zealand is Australia which is 1000 miles away. So New Zealand is safe in the sense that they are far away from any land and Australia is our friend so we're fine.
Discussion of pull factors: the main reason my dad left India to come to a country that doesn't get put on the map most of the time is pulled factor 1. My dad left because of the opportunities and the condition it was in. As I said, New Zealand was economically stable. Along with the crime rate being low, it was a good country and I believe this to be the main reason he left India.
Conclusion: sum up this report. My dad left his home in India to come to New Zealand in 1999 because he wanted a better life. A one that his farm like life in India could not give him. he went from living in a country that was overpopulated then to one which was far smaller in landmass and population. But It was a great country and if I was in his shoes I probably would’ve left too.
