inquiry 3

intro

Kia Ora everyone, this is mine and Aaven’s inquiry. So Aaven and I decided to do our inquiry on volleyball because really enjoy playing it and to because we did paper, scissors, rock to see who could choose our inquiry topic. Anyway Aaven and I have gathered up information for 6 research questions on volleyball, so we both hope that you enjoy our inquiry.

What is indoor volleyball?

Volleyball is a team sport that has 2 teams of 6 players on a court in which both teams are separated by a net. Each team tries to hit the ball on the ground on the other team’s side of the net to score a point.

What it beach volleyball?

Beach volleyball is quite different to indoor volleyball. The first difference is that it played outdoors on a beach. Another difference is that each team has only 2 players. A third difference is they use a different type of scoring. It is a shorter game and they only play to 21 points not 25 like indoor volleyball. They also use a different ball to indoor volleyball. It is lighter. And the last thing is beach volleyball has a smaller court size.

What do you need for volleyball?

to play volleyball you need a net. This is so that you have something to hit the ball over and to stop the ball if you don’t hit it high enough and to separate the teams. You will also need a ball. The ball is the most important thing because this is what you hit and without it you would be hitting air so this is the most important thing you will need. It is what you hit over the net that we previously talked about.

You will also need a place to play. It could be outdoor or it could be indoor. This may also determine the type of volleyball you play. warning (the rest of the things are optional but many people use them) Most people wear shoes when playing volleyball so that you don’t hurt your feet when someone stands on them. People also wear sporting shorts and a t-shirt so that you have good airflow when playing.

Where is volleyball played?

Volleyball can be played anywhere as long as have the correct equipment like what is explained in the previous paragraph (things like a volleyball, a net), but usually, volleyball is played on an indoor volleyball court or a beach volleyball court, (explained in paragraph #1) but as long as you have the equipment you can play where you like.

How can volleyball benefit you?

Volleyball is a good sport to get stronger because you do so much jumping around and trying to hit the ball. Your get bigger and when you do it more it gets easier to play because you are more fit. This benefits you so when you go to a different sport you are strong and flexible. The activities required when playing volleyball strengthen the upper body, arms, shoulders, thighs, abdominals, and lower legs. In addition, volleyball improves hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and balance.

Who, Where, When was volleyball invented?

The game of volleyball was invented by William G. Morgan the director of physical education at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1895. He was inspired after meeting James Naismith the inventor of basketball. He realized that the speed of basketball made it quite hard for weaker people and older athletes to play so then he thought he would try to make a new game.

Mr Morgan liked that basketball was played indoors and wanted to keep this for his new game, but without the level of contact that basketball has. He also liked aspects tennis, but you need a lot of equipment for this, but he thought that the net was a good idea.

At first, the game was called mignonette. Morgan took a year to get the rules right, once he had done that he staged an exhibition match at the 1896 YMCA physical directors conference at Springfield.

After getting the attention of the director of the professional physical training school, Dr. Luther Gulick. It then got the attention of Dr. Alfrid T who said that he should rename it volleyball. Since he had a good response he kept experimenting with the rules, first by raising the height of the net then trying different types of balls, lighter ones, and heavier ones.

Completely useless Volleyball facts you will definitely forget

  1. Volleyball is the most popular second sport, or most popular off-season sport today.

Does pro volleyball get much funding?

NZ Volleyball players don’t get much funding. They have to self-fund their travel to go to games, and they pay for their own accommodation.

Volleyball NZ say professional volleyball is underfunded, and describe it almost like a chicken and egg situation; people follow teams that do well in the world, but we can't do well until people follow it and we get funding to do well. Compared to sports like rugby who get lots of funding so people want to do it, and many opportunities for development exist.

I think that the lack of funding is the main reason why people don’t become pro volleyball players. Because they have to pay to play the sport that they love and they don’t get paid or they don’t get paid much so they have to have another job to get money so they can stay well and that means they don’t have enough time to work on their training.

conclusion
