Why review songs?
Most of our trusted content in life is reviewed by top experts. It might not be perfect, but it really helps to have the input from an educated third party. The music that shows up in our churches and worship should be no different, which is why we wanted to start an all-in-one music label and publishing company that has a theological vetting process built in to its system.
Our team of theologians has helped to develop a rubric that we'll use to approve the songs that go into Tapestry's library. This rubric addresses five key issues:
1) Are there theological errors in the lyrics?
2) Is the theology in the lyrics strong?
3) Are the lyrics saturated with Biblical truth?
4) Are the themes consistent with scripture?
5) Is the imagery appropriate?
We felt that it would also be a helpful service to use this system to look at established worship songs that the church is currently singing. Are there issues or considerations that we should be accounting for? Are there songs that we're singing that we shouldn't be singing? Are there songs that get a bad rap because of something that might be unmerited? Our team of theologians is helping to answer those questions.
